OPPO Find X8 Review in Five Minutes: So Far, So Good!

The OPPO Find X series recently made its return to the Indian market. The OPPO Find X8 series are the first full blown flagship smartphones to arrive in India since the Find X2 series back in 2020. And I have been testing out the vanilla Find X8 for about a week now and here's what I think about it.

But before diving into my impressions, it is worth noting that the OPPO Find X8 price in India starts from Rs 69,999 for the base 12GB/256GB model and Rs 79,999 for the 16GB/512GB variant, which puts it in prime flagship territory. Let's take a brief look at the OPPO Find X8 and find out how it fits in India's highly competitive flagship space.

OPPO Find X8 First Impressions

Style and Substance

The OPPO Find X8 boasts a sleek yet stylish design with flat sides and contoured edges, which is very iPhone-esque. However, the phone is generally comfortable to grip and boasts a minimalist aesthetic. It weighs 193 grams and measures 7.85mm thick, which is quite impressive for a flagship. The OPPO Find X8 comes in Star Grey and Space Black shades.

The Cosmos Ring camera design is now 40% thinner, while adding an elegant touch to the phone. The Find X8 has an alert slider on the left, similar to that of the OnePlus 12 (Review). The Star Grey variant features a matte silver finish that is resistant to fingerprint, just in case you don't want to use the transparent silicon cover included in the box.

The Find X8 features glass protection on the front and back as well as an aluminium frame. The OPPO Find X8 is also resistant to dust and water with its IP68+IP69 rating, which will let you use the phone in heavy rain. Additionally, the Find X8 also comes with Swiss SGS drop certification for improved protection against impacts and features military-grade toughness.

Nothing Fancy Here!

For the display, the OPPO Find X8 opts for a 6.59-inch Pro-XDR OLED display with a 1.5K (2760 × 1256 pixels) resolution with 1.45mm slim bezels on all sides. The screen sports an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, although it doesn't use LTPO technology. For enhanced eye protection, the OPPO Find X8's screen is TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 4.0 certified and features 3840Hz PWM dimming.

Finally, the display also supports HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision formats. The screen boasts excellent viewing angles and reproduces sharp colours, which makes content look vibrant. The display boasts a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits and a peak HDR brightness of 4,500 nits, allowing you to easily view content, irrespective of lighting. Finally, the Splash Touch feature, allows you to use the screen with wet hands without any issues.

Impressive Performance

The OPPO Find X8 becomes the first smartphone to use the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC globally. This also makes it the fastest smartphone in the segment in India. The chip is paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The phone also has an advanced cooling system to ensure excellent sustained performance.

We couldn't dive deep into the phone's performance, but its Geekbench and AnTuTu scores were quite impressive. Moreover, the Find X8 also ran Call of Duty: Mobile without any hitches. OPPO's Trinity Engine also aids in improving the efficiency of the chipset, while maintaining exceptional performance.

Hasselblad Camera System

The vanilla Find X8 features a 50MP Sony LYT-700 main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and a 1/1.56" sensor size, a 50MP Samsung 5KJN5 ultrawide lens with an f/2.0 aperture and autofocus, and a 50MP Sony LYT-600 73mm periscope shooter with an f/2.6 aperture and OIS. Up front, there's a 32MP Sony IMX615 selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

In my brief experience with the camera system on the Find X8, I didn't have too many complains. The primary camera captures detailed shots with vibrant colours in daylight and good dynamic range. We are yet to test out the ultrawide and periscope lenses, so we'll withhold judgment on those until our full review.

The Find X8 also impressed with its portrait photography. The Hasselblad Master Camera System features a ton of different customization options and fun modes that we'll be testing out in our full review. The OPPO Find X8 can also record 4K 60fps Dolby Vision HDR video on the front and rear cameras. On paper, the OPPO Find X8's cameras are nothing to write home about, but my initial impressions were generally positive.

Seamless Experience

The OPPO Find X8 runs Android 15-based ColorOS 15. It is the first smartphone in India to run Android 15 out of the box. Moreover, OPPO promises four years of Android OS updates and five years of regular security patches with the Find X8.

We haven't dived too much into the software, but the overall experience is seamless, while the UI is generally clean. It also comes with a plethora of AI features, although there are a bunch of unnecessary pre-installed apps. Some key highlights of ColorOS 15 include Circle to Search, AI Studio, over 800 new animations, and Touch to Share. Stay tuned for our full OPPO Find X8 review for a deeper dive into ColorOS 15.

Lasting Power

Powering the Find X8 is a sizeable 5,610 mAh silicon-carbon battery that can last an entire day on a full charge. In my experience, draining out the battery will take around a day and half under regular usage.

Moreover, the phone supports 80W wired SUPERVOOC charging, which delivers a full charge in under 50 minutes. Additionally, it also supports 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging, which is faster than the wired charging support on most flagships. It also supports MagCharge to offer magnetic charging convenience.

First Impressions

The OPPO Find X8 marks a strong return to the Indian flagship market. Its sleek design, robust build, powerful performance, and impressive camera system make it a compelling choice. The long-lasting battery and rapid charging options are a big plus. While the software experience is generally smooth, there's room for improvement in terms of bloatware.

Overall, the Find X8 manages to offer a premium smartphone experience outside the 'ultra-premium' segment. For now, it is a strong contender for title of best smartphone under Rs 70,000 in India. However, I'll have to withhold judgement until my full review.
