After launching srt.phone last year in May, technology firm Smartron unveiled a new smartphone called t.phone P in the Indian market. The smartphone has been priced at Rs. 7,999 and it will be available exclusively on Flipkart from January 17.
The new smartphone comes with a massive 5,000 mAh battery that is touted to deliver up to 350 hours of standby time. The handset also equipped with OTG support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G VoLTE connectivity.
We were present at the launch event and tested the handset for a brief period of time to find out what Smartron is offering this time. Here's what we think of the new device.
Design and Display: Metal body and 5.2 inch HD display
Despite carrying the large battery, t phone P is very comfortable to hold, thanks to its lightweight and rounded corners. The new smartphone comes with a full metal body, unlike the srt.phone.
At the right side of the smartphone, you will find the volume rockers and power button while the hybrid SIM card slot is positioned on the left side. The 3.5mm headphone jack is placed at the top while micro USB port is at the bottom.
The t.phone P comes with a 5.2 inches full HD screen display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and it also features a 2.5D curved glass.
The smartphone has 13-megapixel rear camera along with the LED flashlight. The front panel has a 5-megapixel secondary camera along with LED flashlight to brighten up the images in non-ideal light situations.
Talking about the 5.2-inch HD display, it offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
The display seemed quite responsive and decent and viewing angles were also good.
Camera: 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera
The new smartphone has 13-megapixel rear camera along with LED flashlight to help you capture images in low-light conditions. It has Beautify mode, Panorama, Time Lapse, Multi Exposure and Burst modes while the secondary 5-megapixel camera along with f/2.0 aperture. It is also accompanied by Wide Selfie, Beautify and Burst modes.
We tested both the cameras for a brief period and found that the shots showed good detailing on the 5.2-inch screen, But it is too early to comment on performance, so stay tuned with GizBot.
Battery and Software: 5000mAh high-capacity battery and Android Nougat
The most impressive thing about this smartphone is its massive 5,000 mAh battery unit that which the company claims is good enough to give 350 hours that mean close to 15 days of standby time.
We will evaluate such claims while reviewing the handset.
On the software front, t. phone P comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. Then there are some pre-installed like t-care, t-store, and t-cloud.
The handset felt pretty responsive and there were no lags and stutters during my usage, however, we will stress test the t.phone P to find out its potential.
Processor and RAM: Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor
t.phone P is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128 GB via microSD card. Smartron is also offering 1000 GB free cloud storage and there's a dedicated microSD card slot with Dual-SIM (nano+nano) capabilities that seems good at this price point.
As we have mentioned earlier, Qualcomm is not always the first choice for smartphone manufacturers when presenting a smartphone in the sub-10 k price segment.
Moreover, we will give our final verdict after reviewing the handset.
t. phone P seems like a decent budget smartphone with a big battery and design as its highlight features. We didn't face any major issue with the smartphone in our brief usage. However, there is tough competition with smartphones like Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Motorola Moto C Plus, Micromax Bharat 5 and Infocus Turbo 5.
