Smartron 'tphone P' review: Impressive battery backup and premium design
tphone P also takes good care of your storage requirements and offers an additional 1000GB of free storage on t.cloud.
Amidst the Chinese and Indian smartphone brands fighting in the budget and mid-range price segment, IoT based Indian company Smartron has introduced tphone P at Rs. 7,999, tphone P is a budget Android device with a massive battery inside. tphone P is backed by a massive 5,000 mAh battery unit and runs on Qualcomm's entry-level chipset Snapdragon 435.
- fast fingerprint scanner
- Long lasting battery life
- an additional 1000GB of free storage on t.cloud
- No dedicated microSD slot
- Sluggish Camera performance in Low light
- 16:9 display could have been replaced with 18:9
tphone P also takes good care of your storage requirements and offers an additional 1000GB of free storage on t.cloud. The promising budget handset makes things easy for users by offering near stock Android UI rather than complex and highly customized user interface that we see in Chinese smartphones.
Smartron sent us tphone P and we used it for over a week to find out what this budget smartphone is capable of. Let's find out what tphone P has to bring to the table.
Long-lasting Battery Backup
The most impressive thing about this budget smartphone is its battery backup. tphone P is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery unit which can easily last for two days on a single charge. The battery backup is even better than some popular smartphones like Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4. With light to moderate usage, the smartphone can even last for more than two days which is pretty impressive.
The t phone P comes with OTG reverse charging which means that you can also charge other devices like a smartphone or a speaker with tphone P's massive battery unit. This gives me more reason to recommend this handset to users who have multiple smart devices.
If you are planning to buy a pocket-friendly smartphone with a long-lasting battery backup, tphone P is the safest bet in budget price-segment option.
Design and Display
Despite the fact that tphone P has 5,000mAh battery unit inside, the smartphone does not feel bulky in hands. The smartphone comes with a metal body and looks quite premium. It has rounded corners and curved edges that make for a compact an ergonomic handset. t Phone P can easily fit in your hands and pocket.
The front panel has three capacitive buttons for Home, Back and for inbuilt features or apps.
The volume rockers and power button are on the right side of the smartphone. A hybrid dual-SIM card slot is positioned on the left. The 3.5mm headphone jack is placed at the top while charging port is at the bottom between the speaker grills.
There is a fingerprint sensor at the back and the company logo in the middle. You will also find tphone P branding towards the bottom of the logo.
Overall tphone P looks good in hands, will give you premium feel and the fingerprint sensor is also fast and accurate.
5.2-inch HD screen
On the display front, the t.phone P sports a 5.2 inch HD (720x1280) display with 2.5 curved glass on the top along with considerable bezels on the top and bottom. Unlike some smartphones in budget price-point that offers the new 18:9 aspect ratio screens, t.Phone P only offers the conventional 16:9 aspect ratio display. If you are awestruck by the taller screen handsets and want to see what market offers, you can check Infocus Vision 3.
During my duration with the smartphone, I found the display perfectly fine for all the tasks. It is quite responsive, bright and color reproduction is also good.
Camera Performance
The tphone p comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with a 4160X3120 resolution along with LED flashlight. On the front side, you'll find a 5-megapixel camera with 2560X 1920 resolution. The front-facing camera is also accompanied with a flashlight and comes with features like wide selfies and beautification mode.
The new smartphone is capable of capturing good images in daylight from the rear camera but the images lack details on a closer look. The camera is not very good in absorbing light in unfavorable conditions and you might end up with dark photos in low light.
On the other hand, the front camera turned out fine and offered pleasing selfie shots in daylight. Overall both cameras do a decent job in daylight but the performance in low light is questionable.
Hardware, Software, and Connectivity
The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core chipset processor along with 3GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage which is expandable to 128 GB through micro SD card.
We didn't find any lags while using the smartphone. The tphone p performs well in everyday task such as browsing, watching videos on YouTube and while using the camera.
The smartphone can also easily handle light games and photo editing in software like Snapseed, Picsart, etc.
On the software front, the tphone P runs on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system with close to the stock Android user interface.
The smartphone comes with the tronX integration which allows users to add 1000 GB of free t cloud storage but one needs to create the ID for the same. It also has some pre-installed apps like t. cloud, t.care, and t. store. The UI is clean and minimal, which as per me is the second highlight feature of this budget smartphone after the massive battery unit.
On the connectivity front, the Smartron t.phone P supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth,WiFi, GPS, dual-SIM and micro USB port.
Overall, t phone P will not disappoint you on the performance front in the budget price-point.
Conclusion
Smartron tphone p is ideal for users who are looking for a smartphone that can solve their battery problems and offer a lag-free user experience in budget price-point. The near stock Android UI combined with Qualcomm CPU and 3GB RAM is enough for most of the tasks you perform. The icing on the cake is a premium design and Smartron's bundled 1,000 GB cloud storage.
The smartphone struggles in the camera department and fails to deliver an immersive multimedia experience as it only offers a conventional 16:9 aspect ratio screen. If you can make peace with the standard screen size and an entry-level camera, tPhone P will not disappoint you.
