The new handset is priced between the flagship Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Mini. As speculated many a times in the past, the Galaxy Alpha has a metal frame but the phone is still made out of plastic.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Goes Official: 5 Things You Need to Know

South Korean tech giant Samsung, which has been losing market share in emerging markets was highly anticipated to come up with its HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z2 competitor.

Well, looks like the Sammy fanboys wait is over for a metal phone as today the company has launched its much hyped Galaxy Alpha at an event held in Russia.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha - Specifications

Spec-wise, the Galaxy Alpha sports a 4.7 inch Super AMOLED 720p HD display, a quadcore or octacore processor, 2GB of RAM, 12MP rearfacing camera, 2.1MP frontfacing shooter, 32GB of onboard storage; missing microSD card slot, a small 1860mAh battery, 4G LTE and more. Of course the device will run on the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat with TouchWiz UI.

The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Alpha happens to be the thinnest handset in the Galaxy series. On the design front, the Galaxy Alpha is no different to the existing Galaxy S5. Yes indeed, the only difference that makes the Galaxy Alpha upscale is the added metal sides with chamfered edges. This is not the handset we've been waiting for so long. Unfortunately, its a disguise, as you'll find the same dimpled, removable back cover.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha – Added Features

Just like the Galaxy S5, the Alpha retains the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor. In the camera department, you will also find features like Beauty Face, Dual Camera, HDR (High Dynamic Range), Panorama, Selective Focus, Shot & More, Virtual Tour and more. Also, one could make use of Accelerometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor ,Gesture Sensor and HR Sensor present in the device.

The smartphone will be made available in the market in colors including Black, White, Gold and Blue colors.

As per a report, starting today, users in Russia will be able to preorder the device and the device will be available at RUB 25,000 / 690 USD / Rs 42,267.

The Galaxy Alpha release date is pegged for September 12. The company might showcase the Galaxy Alpha for global audience at this year's IFA Berlin tech show.

It is hard to suggest whether the Galaxy Alpha will prove to be a hit as Samsung's last flagship handset, the Galaxy S5, has not been well received by consumers and critics alike.

Recently, Samsung lost its grip in China and India both crucial markets in the second quarter of 2014. Last month, Samsung reported depressing second quarter earnings as its operating profits fell 25 percent, we will have to wait and watch what difference in sales figures will Galaxy Alpha bring for Samsung.
