As per the new reports leaked in the media world Samsung is working on the second-generation Galaxy Gear 2 and is also said to launch Google Glass rival - the Samnsung Galaxy Gear Glass.
Galaxy Gear 2 - What We Know So Far
According to the industry source, the South Korean giant Samsung have bigger plans , when it comes to presenting the much hyped sequel to last year's Galaxy Gear. ZDNet Korea reported on Wednesday that Galaxy Gear 2 is expected to have an all new design, and may feature a flexible OLED screen.
The original Galaxy Gear had youthful appeal with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display. Made out of plastic and lush aluminum finish, the device was severely criticized for being chunky and heavy. With the Galaxy Gear 2, Samsung will opt for a flexible OLED screen, thus allowing the manufacturer to present its intelligent watch in a more fashionable manner.
The report however did not give substantial information related to improved software. Samsung's first-gen Galaxy Gear could be used with select handsets, notably, mid-to-high end Galaxy series. Therefore, those who would like to use the Galaxy Gear with iOS devices left in bizarre situation. Moreover, Samsung attached premium price tag, that wasn't expected from a mass consumer friendly brand.
Samsung reportedly plans to launch the much awaited Galaxy Gear 2 sometime in March or April in London. The rumor has it that Samsung could announce its much improved intelligent watch alongside Galaxy S5.
We've been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time," said Samsung Mobile Executive VP Lee Young Hee. "When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved."
Lee further said that the smartwatch would come with a thinner profile compared to its predecessor, which the executive said was "bulky design." The Galaxy Gear 2 will likely to be integrated with some sort of health related functions.
What About Samsung's Google Glass Rival?
In another set of reports from Korea Times, it has been informed that the South Korean tech titan is also prepping to launch a pair of smart glasses, dubbed Galaxy Glass as a direct rival to Google Glass.
As per the reports, Samsung will unpack the Galaxy Glass at IFA 2014 in September. With Apple preparing to launch its first generation smartwatch later this year, the competition in the wearable segment will be stiff. Stay tuned to GizBot for more updates!
