In a era of current smartphone market across the globe, media consumption is growing leaps and bounds with each passing day, as consumers are getting lured by the world of apps and related content. Maybe this is the reason why, more and more killer large screen handset launched by various manufacturer are creating ripple across the smartphone arena. This was the statement made by the Samsung official during the official launch of its latest handset in the Indian market - the younger kin of Galaxy Note 2 and the S3 much look alike - Samsung Galaxy Grand.
The South Korean giant has launched the dual SIM version of the their flagship handset in India at a price of Rs 21,500. Galaxy Grand was unveiled at a special event in Mumai, which was also screened live in Delhi.
Further, as an introductory special offer, Samsung is also offering handset along with a free Flip Cover in the box along with 50 GB Dropbox storage and other attractive freebies. For those who are interested to buy this new mid-range hybrid of Note and S3, Galaxy Grand will hit the retail shelves from the first week of February 2013.
Galaxy Grand - Key Specifications
While unwrapping the handset at the special media event, Samsung officials informed that Galaxy Grand will land boasting a 5 inch multi-touch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution, dual core 1.2GHz processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, 8GB internal storage capacity, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, HDMI, A-GPS, DLNA and a 2,100 mAh Li-ion battery.
What About Preloaded Applications?
It was also informed that Samsung Grand Grand will come packed with pre-loaded including ChatOn, which is Samsung's unique cross-platform communication service and several other applications like Games Hub, My Services that will offer myMovies, myMusic, myMobileTV, myStation, myReader and myEducation.
Price & Availability
The dual SIM variant of Galaxy Grand is priced at Rs 21,500 and will be available for sale from the first week of February 2013. Galaxy Grand will come in two color options - Elegant White and Metallic Blue.

Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Direct Call & More
The youthful kin to Galaxy Note 2 will come loaded with the S3 popular S features including Smart Stay eyetracking feature, which uses the front camera to prevent the handset from entering the standby mode while a user is using it.
Also, Direct Call, which will enable users to automatically dial a call by taking the handset near the ear.

As informed by Samsung officials, the Galaxy Grand will get unleashed features the latest Smart dual SIM technology. Why Smart? As claimed by the compant, the innovative Smart Dual SIM feature will avail users to manage two phone numbers with the automatic forward functionality. Which means, if the user is busy attending a call on one SIM and a call comes in, it would automatically be forwarded to another SIM ensuring efficient management of personal and work commitments.
Moreover, Smart Dual SIM feature also offers the flexibility of selecting different mobile billing plans for the SIM cards, thereby enabling the users to make the most of competitive call and data plans. Lastly, at the same time, the user will be able to access the data including contacts, messages and more from both the SIMs.
During the launch, Samsung also flaunted that the Galaxy Grand has got enthrusted with the special multi-window feature, which is already available in Galaxy Note 2 and in the Jelly Bean upgraded Galaxy S3 handsets.
Where, the multi-window view feature allows multitasking and running of multiple applicati Face & Voice Unlock ons simultaneously on the display screen without having to switch between the apps and screens.
Android Jelly Bean Interface
Considerably, Samsung also touted that Galaxy Grand is equipped with one of the best specifications and combinations in terms of processor, RAM and battery to support the likes of the Android Jelly Bean running operating system. The company officials noted that there may be various smartphones in the market equipped with Android Jelly Bean OS, however, due to the low specs combination, especially processor and battery life, the handsets are not able to give full justice to the Google's latest operating system.
However, with 1.2Ghz dual core processor and 2,100 mAH loaded battery, Galaxy Grand will prove itself to be an adequate handsets to experience the advantages of Jelly Bean, specially when it comes to features like Project Butter and top notification panel spacing.
As an introductory offer, Galaxy Grand will come with an original Flip Cover, with preloaded My Services from where users can download music and movies through worth Rs 8,000 for free, 50GB free Dropbox cloud storage space and 2GB Vodafone 3G data download free per month for 2 months. Also most of the handset accessories would be common with Galaxy Note 2 and S3.
