Samsung Galaxy Music vs Sony Xperia J: Which is a Better Music Smartphone?

Samsung has once again proved to the tech media world that it will not only unveil smartphones with high-end specs like Galaxy S3 but also concentrate on the low-end and mid-range segment of the smartphone arena by taking the wraps off its budget music centric smartphones – Galaxy Music and Galaxy Music Duos. 

According to earlier rumors, Samsung was believed to unveil these smartphones alongside Galaxy S3 Mini on October 11 in Germany at a special media event. However, the world’s largest smartphone vendor has unveiled it a couple of days prior to the event.

Though Samsung has not disclosed the pricing and the exact release date of its new music smartphones, however the handset is speculated to hit the retail stores by the end this year.

At the same time, Sony the Japanese tech giant unveiled Xperia J smartphone at the IFA 2012 expo held in Berlin in late August alongside Xperia T and Xperia V smartphones. 

The new Sony Xperia J, which is also awaiting its release into the market will come loaded with the Walkman feature to offer unlimited music experience to the music lovers.

Dimensions & Weight: While Galaxy Music handset boasts a dimension of 110.1 x 59.0 x 12.25 mm and weighs in at 107 grams, on the other hand Xperia J carries a dimension of 124.3 x 61.2 x 9.2 mm and a weight of around 124 grams. 

Display: In this segment, Galaxy Music packs a 3 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 240 pixel resolution. Whereas, Xperia J sports a larger 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 480 x 854 pixel resolution and BRAVIA mobile engine. 

Processor: While the processor chipset used in Galaxy Music is not disclosed by the company, Xperia J is equipped with a single-core 1GHz ARM Cortex A5 processor.

Operating System:  Both the smartphones come flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS boasting its advantageous super smooth UI interface and features.

Camera: On the camera optics front, Galaxy Music comes has a 3MP rear camera and no front facing camera for video calling.

In comparison, Xperia J has a better 5MP rear camera accompanied with a 0.3MP VGA front camera for video calling.

Storage: In this segment, both the smartphones have 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB.

Connectivity: Analyzing the connectivity factor, both the handsets offer Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and micro USB 2.0 features.

Battery: Galaxy Music is loaded with a 1,300 mAh Li-ion battery of unknown backup, Xperia J is powered by a bigger 1,750 mAh Li-ion battery delivering 7.5 hours talk time and 25 days standby.

Verdict

Speaking of Samsung Galaxy Music, it has been launched at a budget price tag keeping in mind consumers who might not wish to shell too much bucks from their pockets, hence it packs low-end specifications as compared to the high-end smartphones of today.

When compared, Sony Xperia J is a mid-range smartphone with a little high-end specifications.

Hence, music enthusiasts who do not want to spend much on a smartphone purchase but still want to enjoy the best audio output can opt for Galaxy Music, which will also come along with Android ICS OS and advanced software features like Sound Alive and SRS technology.

Whereas, consumers who are too concerned on the specifications of the smartphone, can choose the Xperia J with a larger display, better camera optics, enhanced battery backup and Sony’s media applications also include Walkman, Album and Movies to offer unlimited music and a variety of entertainment services.
