The South Korean handset manufacturer, Samsung unveiled the much rumored Galaxy Note 2 running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at the IFA 2012 in Berlin on August 29 alongside several other products. At the time of launch, Samsung announced that the phablet will be released in the markets starting October.
Now, it seems like the world’s largest smartphone maker is planning to release the device in India well before its presumed release date as it has started accepting pre-orders for the same for Rs 5,000 at the Samsung India eStore since last week.
Also, those who prebook the Galaxy Note 2 will get a free desktop dock costing Rs 2,399. However, the final official price of the device is still not revealed.
Consumers who pre-order the Galaxy Note 2 will receive a coupon through email, which has to be produced at the time of buying the device. This non-refundable coupon reveals that the Galaxy Note 2 will be made available on the eStore starting September 27, hinting at the possibility of releasing the device on the same day across the country.
Coming to the specifications, the Galaxy Note successor has a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 1.6GHz quad core processor, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting 32GB, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and a massive 3,100 mAh Li-ion battery.
Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the Galaxy Note 2 comes in three different configurations – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
Further, being a phablet, the Note 2 has an improved stylus with a rubbed tip for better touch response. Also, the Air View feature of the device lets the users control it by hovering the S-Pen stylus over the display without touching.
As the Galaxy Note 2 is based on the design of the Galaxy S3, it has some key features that are available in the latter including improved handwriting recognition, Photo Note, AllShare Play & AllShare Cast, Samsung TouchWiz, Samsung Kies Air, Smart Stay, Direct Call and Screen Recorder.
