Samsung Galaxy Note in India Gets Android Jelly Bean Update: 7 New Features Added to Your Phablet

Well, here comes the good news for all the owners of original Galaxy Note, which was launched in 2011 which kicked off the term phablet in the mobile space. Finally, the first generation Samsung phablet has received the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade making it up to date.

In February, the Galaxy Note users in countries including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Germany started receiving the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade. Now, it seems like the time has come for the Indian Galaxy Note users as the handset has received the same.

The Android 4.1.2 update for Galaxy Note is an OTA update and users can also install the same via Samsung Kies.

How to update Galaxy Note via OTA?

As usual, OTA (Over The Air) updates can be checked via Settings → About → Software update. It has to noted that the OTA updates may not appear for all users and hence, Kies update is the recommended.

How to update Galaxy Note via Kies?

Step 1: Install Samsung Kies from the website on your computer.

Step 2: Connect your Galaxy Note to the PC using the USB cable.

Step 3: Once it is connected, check for the Jelly Bean upgrade is available, if yes, click on Firmware Upgrade button.

Step 4: Ensure that you backup all the data including contacts, multimedia content and others to your computer before upgrading.

Step 5: Once the download and upgrade process is complete, the tablet will restart.

Step 6: Disconnect the device from the computer and reconnect the cable again to restore the data.

Features of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Once Galaxy Note is upgraded to Android 4.1.2, the phablet will receive amazing features and users can relish them with the smell of Jelly Bean. Below is a list of all the new features that would come to Galaxy Note as a result of the Android 4.1.2 upgrade.


Multi-View feature initially debuted with Galaxy Note 2 and has arrived on many other Samsung devices via upgrades. Now, Galaxy Note will also get it once it is upgraded to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

It also has to be noted that the South Korean tech giant has confirmed that Galaxy Note will receive mulit-window feature in Jelly Bean soon.

With this features, users can view two different windows or apps at the same time, thereby allowing them to multi-task effectively.

Page Buddy

With Page Buddy feature, Galaxy Note will smartly predict what the user intends to do according to their actions. For instance, when the earphones are plugged in, the handset will automatically open the music player.

New Camera Features

The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy Note adds the Best Face feature, which selects the best look of each person from a group of photos taken in Burst Mode.

Another new feature for the camera is the new Low Light mode, that helps the camera sensor take high-quality photos in low light conditions without flash.

Customizable Notification Panel

The upgrade to Galaxy Note brings a customizable notifications panel letting users choose which toggles to appear, while the brightness slider in notification panel can now be disabled. All the toggles can be controlled from the Settings menu.

Smart Rotation

Galaxy Note will also get the Smart Rotation feature that brings in the home screen rotation support. The software update enables landscape home screen support and auto-rotation of the home screens.

Paper Artist App

Paper artist in an app that was originally developed for Galaxy Note 2. It is an image editor that lets users to edit images, add effects, stylize them and so on. On Galaxy Note, users can use the S Pen to color parts of the image.

Group Cast App

Samsung Group Cast Application is a new feature that allows users to create groups for sharing photos, documents, presentations and images. The only criterion is that all the users must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
