IFA 2014: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Launched With Bent Display [PHOTOS]

By Anuj

Meet the Galaxy Note Edge - Samsung's most promising smartphone we've ever seen. Samsung had to launch a device like the Note Edge, after a failure of the Galaxy Round.

Samsung has been largely criticized for not taking too much time to come up with something original. Thus, the company on Wednesday unveiled the Galaxy Note Edge, with a curved display similar to patent descriptions.

The Galaxy Note Edge is same as the Note 4, at least in respect of specs and features on offer. Let's have a look at specifications sheet. The Galaxy Note Edge sports a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display having a resolution of 2560 x 1440-pixels.

Like the Note 4, it is stuffed with a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of native storage and a microSD card slot. The high-end phone also comes with a 3000mAh battery fitted inside. The Galaxy Note Edge runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with TouchWiz UI. Other connectivity features are similar to the Note 4.

The Galaxy Note Edge has a slightly smaller screen at 5.6-inches, compared to Note 4's 5.7-inch display. But the Galaxy Note Edge is a weird device after all. The 5.6-inch screen makes room for a new edge. The main purpose for having such a screen is make information more accessible whenever you want. Basically, the Note Edge's display acts as an extended ticker. The ticker bar also acts as an app tray for an easy access to applications.

According to Samsung, developers will have access to the software development kit (SDK) to build apps for the edge display. The phone will land in the U.S. later this year. There's no update when Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Note Edge in India. Stay tuned to GizBot for more updates!
