Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus with NFC Coming Soon: Top 5 Mid-Range Rivals of the Upcoming Smartphone

Back in 2011, Samsung released Galaxy S2 - its flagship smartphone and the best selling handset of the year. Now, there are rumors circulating on the web claiming that a mid-range variant of Galaxy S2 will be released soon.

 

Since November 2012, there have been several reports regarding upcoming smartphone offering glimpse of its specifications and features. A recent report claims that Samsung is planning to release two Galaxy S2 Plus variants - GT-i9105 and GT-i9105P respectively.

As per a recent SamMobile report, the model number GT-i9105P could come with NFC chip. Initially, Samsung was speculated to launch Galaxy S2 Plus by the end of 2012, but due to the success of Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3, the company has delayed Galaxy S2 Plus. However, the handset could be unwrapped in the first quarter of 2013.

Earlier reports claim that Galaxy S2 Plus is rumored to have a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, 1.2GHz dual core Cortex A9 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 1GB RAM and 16GB/32GB internal memory along with a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and a 1,650 mAh Li-ion battery.

It is also speculated that the handset will be launched in a couple of color variants including Chic White and Dark Blue and Chic White Galaxy S2 Plus will be released in the third week of the next year and the Dark Blue variant of the same will be released a couple of weeks later.

Galaxy S3 Mini sports a 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 400 pixel resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 5MP rear camera, VGA camera front camera for video calling, 8GB/16GB internal storage options, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth, NFC, micro USB 2.0 and a 1,500 mAh Li-ion battery.

Moreover, being a miniature version of Galaxy S3, the handset comes integrated with all the exclusive S features including S Voice, Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Stay, Buddy Photo Share and S Beam.

The handset is yet to be released officially into the Indian market and is available for pre-order via online retailer sites. With enhanced software features, S3 Mini could be a rival to Galaxy S2 Plus.

When it comes to the specs of Windows Phone 8 based HTC 8S, the handset has a 4 inch Super LCD display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 1GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera, micro SD card slot for expandable memory support, 1,700 mAh Li-Po battery, Beats Audio integration, NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi features.

Though the handset has been unveiled for the Indian market, it is still not been released, however, the smartphone is listed for purchase on online retailers for a price of Rs 19,359.

With a completely different operating system, similar processor, storage and battery specs, HTC 8S could be a stiff competitor to the Samsung offering.

Xperia Sola packs a 3.7 inch scratch-resistant TFT capacitive touchscreen with 854 x 480 pixel resolution and Mobile Bravia Engine technology, 1GHz dual core processor, Android 4.0 ICS, 5MP rear camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, micro USB 2.0, 8GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage and a 1,320 mAh Li-ion battery.

Priced at Rs 17,899 and with a smaller display, lesser camera performance and more, Xperia Sola could be a hard challenger to the Samsung smartphone.

Optimus L5 has a 4.0 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels which is disappointing. It has an 800 MHz Cortex A5 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It has a 5 MP camera at the back but, lacks a front facing secondary one. The handset is powered by a 1500 mAh battery.

Though the handset is priced at Rs 16,000, which is reasonable, it has pretty basic specs as compared to the rumored Galaxy S2 Plus.

Lumia 610 sports a 3.7 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It has a 5 MP camera, 8 GB internal storage and 256 MB RAM. The handset runs on Windows Phone 7.5 OS and is equipped with an 800MHz ARM Cortex A5 processor and a 1,300 mAh BP-3L battery offering 9.5 hours talk time and 720 hours standby.

Based on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system, Lumia 610 can be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7.8.

Moreover, with a price of Rs 12,999, the affordable Windows Phone based smartphone could be a potential rival to the upcoming Samsung handset - Galaxy S2 Plus.
