Well, this year Samsung has surely sizzled up the mobile space with the launch of array of shiny smartphones under its Galaxy Series. However, the South Korean giant is not alone, there are others in the market too, who are not leaving any stone unturned, when it comes to market competition and fetching the sales figures.

 

LG and Google joined hands this year to uncover the highly anticipated Nexus 4 smartphone with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which has amazed the tech world with its flying benchmark and performance results.

Hence, let us compare the new Google branded LG made Nexus successor with the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, the small package version of smartphone king Galaxy S3, which also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and boasts the same looks of S3.

Dimensions & Weight: Galaxy S3 Mini carries dimension of 121.55 x 63 x 9.85 mm and weighs around 111.5 grams, when compared, Nexus 4 is definitely thicker and heavier, measuring 134.2 x 68.6 x 9.1 mm in dimensions and weighing at 139 grams.

Display: When it comes to display, Galaxy S3 Mini sports a 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 400 pixel resolution.

In comparison, Nexus 4 houses a larger 4.7-inch IPS display that has a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels .

Well, for some AMOLED may be clearer and sharper than IPS display, but the former surely consumes more battery than compared to the latter.

Processor: In this segment, Galaxy S3 Mini is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor, whereas, Nexus 4 has a quad core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor offering long battery life, effective multi-tasking, smoother game play, stunning graphics and more 3D effects.

Operating System: Speaking of OS, S3 Mini runs on Google"s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS out of the box while Nexus 4 is based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean comes with new features including Photo Sphere camera, Gesture Typing, Miracast, DayDream, improved notifications, quick settings, support to multiple user accounts, improved Google Now and more.

Camera: On the camera optics front, Galaxy S3 Mini has a 5MP rear camera and a VGA camera front camera for video calling. On the other hand, Nexus 4 scores higher with a better 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front camera.

Storage: Speaking of storage, both the handsets have 8GB/16GB internal storage options, however, Galaxy S3 Mini has an upper hand with micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB, which is lacking in Nexus 4.

At the same time, Nexus 4 has 2GB RAM while Galaxy S3 Mini has only 1GB RAM.

Connectivity: On the data connectivity front, both are packed with same features including Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth, NFC and micro USB 2.0.

Battery: Galaxy S3 Mini is powered by a 1,500 mAh Li-ion battery of undisclosed battery life while Nexus 4 comes loaded with a better 2,100 mAh Li-Po battery which is claimed by the company to offer 15.3 hours of talk time and 390 hours of standby.

Price: While Samsung and LG have not officially released Galaxy S3 Mini and Nexus 4 in India, the former is unofficially available for pre-order at Rs 26,999 and the latter is available on some online websites at Rs 23,490 (8GB) and Rs 27,490 (16GB) respectively.

Verdict

Galaxy S3 Mini and Nexus 4 are mid range smartphones with pretty impressive specifications and affordable pricing. Moreover, as they are based on the recent versions of Android OS, they have some advanced features that will offer an enhanced user experience.

Detailing on Galaxy S3 Mini, the handset being the miniature of Galaxy S3 comes packed with exclusive software features including S Beam, S Voice, Direct Call, Smart Stay and more.

If the concern is on expandable storage options and plethora of software features, Galaxy S3 Mini is a better option.


However, if the concern is on a larger display, better and faster processor, bigger RAM and more proficient front and rear camera performance accompanied with longer lasting battery backup, the Nexus 4 should be the right choice for you.
