Samsung Gear S, LG G Watch R Smartwatches launched: 5 Big Smartwatch Rivals Facing Threat

    Two of the biggest tech vendors, LG and Samsung, have finally unleashed new wearable devices ahead of Europe's biggest tech conclave - IFA 2014. Samsung has announced two new wearable tech devices - the Gear S smartwatch with 3G voice calling and the Gear Circle Bluetooth headset. On the other hand, LG officially unveils the much touted G Watch R smartwatch with a circular display.

    Samsung will make its Gear S and Gear Circle available in global markets in phases, starting October 2014.. LG would make the G Watch R available to users in the fourth quarter of this year. The latter device could launch in India sometime in December.

    Samsung Gear S - Highlighted Specs and features

    The Gear S offers a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display having a resolution of 360x480 pixel resolution. Under the hood is a dual-core 1GHz processor, paired with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of inbuilt storage and is backed by a 300mAh Li-ion battery.

    On the biggest advantage of the Gear S is the fact that it can be used independently, all thanks to a built-in 3G connectivity. The smartwatch is running on the company's own Tizen OS. The watch is also water proof and dust resistant.

    LG G Watch R - Highlighted Specifications

    The G Watch R has a round circular display. In fact, the screen of the G Watch R is a 1.3-inch Plastic OLED display (P-OLED) with a resolution of 320 x 320-pixel resolution. The watch uses 100 % of the display, claims LG. The G Watch R is powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, coupled with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage.

    The device offers a 410mAh battery fitted inside. The watch is designed to run for up to 30 minutes in one meter of water, thanks to IP67 ratings. A durable stainless steel case and an interchangeable leather strap enhance the overall look and feel of the G Watch R. The LG-made G Watch R will be made available in key markets early in the fourth quarter of 2014.
