Samsung to Launch 5.8 Inch Mid Range Galaxy Grand Handset ?

After announcing the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3, the South Korean giant is prepping another 5.8-inch handset , but in the affordable category. It will be a mid- range Android handset with giant display.

According to a latest DigiTimes report, Samsung is indeed working on a 5.8-inch device, and the tech vendor has apparently asked two Taiwanese manufacturer; Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Giantplus Technology, to supply at least one million panels a month. Industry sources claim that Samsung is highly motivated by the stupendous success of the Galaxy Grand, a 5-inch display handset with dual -core processor and Dual SIM capability.

It is also being said that the decision for sourcing panels (to be used in unknown 5.8-inch device) to two Taiwanese vendors so that Samsung could more focus its energies on producing AMOLED displays. Well, today almost every leading manufacturer has now announced its big screen phones. Samsung is not alone, who makes phablets or giant display handsets.

Many Indian and Chinese based handset vendors are trying to woo consumers with slim trim handsets with display sizes above 5-inches. For instance - Chinese major Huawei this year announced a 6.1 -inch 720p HD handset called the Ascend Mate 6.1. Back home, there are plenty of tech vendors such as Karboon and Swipe, who have come up own version of giant handsets at affordable prices.

Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1

The device comes with a 6.1-inch 720p HD display, 1.5-GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 2GB of RAM, an 8-mega pixel rear camera, 1-mega pixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, A-GPS, Emotional UI, weighs 198 grams, and 4050mAh battery fitted inside. The Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1 is yet to be launched in the Indian market.

The handset packs a 5- inch LCD capacitive display with resolution of 480 x 800 pixel, 1.2GHz dual core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean , an 8-mega pixel rear camera, 2-mega pixel front facing camera for long video chat, 8GB of internal storage, 1GB RAM, Dual SIM , expandable up to 64GB via microSD card, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, HDMI, A-GPS, DLNA and 2,100 mAh Li-ion battery fitted inside. Asking price - Rs. 21,500

Samsung Mega 6.3

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3(GT-I9200) is equipped with a 6.3-inch PLS HD display, 1.7-GHz ARM Cortex-A15 dual -core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, an 8-mega pixel rear camera, 1.9 mega pixel front facing camera for long video chat, 3200mAh Li Ion battery fitted inside, expandable storage up to 64GB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and A-GPS among other features. The device is yet to be announced by Samsung India. Expected date - July 2013.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 (GT-I9152) comes with a 5.8-inch qHD display with resolution of 960 X 540 pixels , 1.4-GHz dual Core processor, Dual SIM, 1.5GB of RAM , 8GB internal memory, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, 8 mega pixel rear camera, 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera, expandable storage, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, and 2,600mAh Li Ion battery fitted inside. The device is yet to be announced by Samsung India. Expected date - July 2013.
