Samsung Patents New Smartwatches With Rounded Display
So far, among the wearable devices, especially in the smartwatch category, all come with a squarish form factor. The squarish shape somehow manages to offer better ergonomic aspect than other shapes.

But things might change with the smartwatch design here on. Just a couple of days back, Samsung has patented three new designs for its new smartwatches. A gallery of patent images have been unearthed by MobileGeeks.

Three new design patents awarded to Samsung on Tuesday by the USPTO show rounded smartwatch faces. What is important in these new patent is that Samsung is taking the circular dial instead of the squarish ones that it has already launched earlier. Although, this is not going to be the first smartwatch with a round dial as Motorola Moto 360 is already on its way and will launch soon.

If you look at the alleged figures, there seems to be some change to the charging port, which is now situated near the bracelet closure. All these smartwatches will have mounted cameras, just like the Galaxy Gear. The patent (Patent No: US D709,873 S) also describes some sort of gesture recognition using the mounted camera which can detect fingertips, which might be used for controlling devices like TVs.

However, whether the device will run on Android Wear or Tizen is still a mystery, which might be sorted out in the following months.

It is also uncertain whether these devices will actually be released, although they do indicate that Samsung is working on some interesting new designs behind closed doors.
