Singapore: Camera-less iPhone 4 and 4S
Currently, cameras are becoming the greatest selling point in smartphones but in Singapore, the iPhone 4 and 4S are available without this option. The main reason in not having cameras is to serve the military personnel who are banned to use devices with camera into their camps.
Some of the camera enthusiasts claim that the quality of the cameras that are built into the latest models of iPhone have been replaced the need to carry a compact.
On Friday, the M1 which is a mobile operator revealed a no-camera version of the smartphone in order to adapt to the needs of the personnel in the defense ministry.
In 2007, the camera phones were banned in the military installations of Singapore and this was done after the photos of the sensitive training activities were found to be posted online.
These camera-less phones are actually targeted towards the military personnel but they are not restricted for them. Anyone interested in using them can buy them, says a spokesman of M1.
Thes modified versions of iPhone cost Sg $49 which is about $38 more than the normal ones. This price figure is posted on the M1 website. Even the other operators like StarHub and SingTel are in talks about offering these no-camera smartphones to the defense ministry.
