A independent fan body of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has announced it will be launching a new phone in honor of the famed politician. The android smartphone to be named as Namo which stands for both Narendra Modi and Next Generation Android Mobile Odyssey.
The official website for the smartphone reads "We are fans of Shri, Narendra Modi, our forthcoming future leader of our great nation India, we are manufacturing latest android handset dedicated to the "IRONMAN" of modern India. We are from land of Gujarat & in electronic smartphone business in China. NAMO stands for Narendra Modi and Next Generation Android Mobile Odyssey. Our product is our way of dedication & respect to our great nation leader. We will be launching NAMO Android handset with Shri Narendra Modi "signature edition" ,for which process in under way !!!"
As per the brief specifications mentioned on the site, NAMO will come with a 5-inch display with Gorilla Glass 2, a 1.5 GHz MT6589 Turbo chipset, 13 MP Camera and will be available in 4 different version including:
1 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM
2 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM
2 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM
2 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM
Wall Street Journal reports that the idea for phone came from China. "There are a lot of products, including MP3 music players and smartphones, named after Chinese leaders, and we wanted to bring this concept to the Indian market,", said Ammeet Desai, a spokesman for the Smart Namo project to WSJ.
Ammeet Desai also says that the phone will be priced lesser than Rs. 16,000 and will come with videos and software applications related to Mr. Modi. The group will be approaching Mr. Modi for his approval in the next month, he added.
The company has told Gizbot that the phone will be launched at the end of August month in Gujarat. Stay tuned to Gizbot for more information on specs and price of the phone.
