The Japanese giant Sony is a premium player in the handset market. Lately, we have seen only high-end devices from Walkman maker. Sony's last major affordable Android -powered handset - the Tipo was a major success. Sony India recently launched Xperia M, an affordable Android -based smartphone with average specifications.
What else? Soon consumers in India will be able to purchase Sony Xperia C, a quad-core powered handset to be made available.
The Xperia C was launched in Shanghai. Sony India never communicated that they would bring the phone to Indian shores or not. Now, we have the answer in the form of a listing available on online shopping site Saholic.
The Sony Xperia C has been tagged under "Coming Soon ".
The phone would go on sale as soon as September 30 2013. The retail price is yet to be revealed by the online retailer. GizBot expect the device to cost at around Rs. 16,000 in the Indian market.
Sony Xperia C - Highlighted Specifications
Sony Xperia C comes with a 5-inch capacitive touch screen (qHD) display having resolution of 960 x 540. The display resolution is just fine for consuming videos on the go and browsing web.
Processor, OS and RAM
The Xperia C comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. For the very first time, Sony has used MediaTek processor to power up its Xperia series. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean comes out of the box. It is to be seen whether Sony updates the device to v4.2 Jelly Bean on day one.
There's an 8MP rear camera with Auto Focus, LED Flash, Exmor R sensor and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear facing camera is capable of recording videos in Full HD format.
Connectivity and Dual SIM
The Xperia C comes with ton of connectivity options: 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, among others. Another major highlight of Sony Xperia C is that the device comes bundled with Dual SIM feature.
Storage and Battery
The Xperia C is fused with 4GB of ROM, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card. The makers have added a monster 2,390mAh Li Ion battery fitted inside. With such powerful battery, it would not be a uphill task to watch full length videos at stretch.
What about the competition?
The Indian handset market is flooded with new handsets. Sony, being an International brand, has to face tough competition from both domestic as well as foreign tech vendors. While most of the Indian players have announced Android -powered handsets with minimum 5-inch HD displays, Sony on the hand has come up with a 5-inch qHD display ducked handset.
