Sony Xperia Play android smartphone updated with the Ice cream sandwich operating system
With the introduction of Android Ice cream sandwich operating system many manufactures have shifted to it. But for the users having old OS, the firmware will be offered as an update. Sony Ericsson is also rolling out ICS update for their Sony Ericsson Xperia Play but the problem is that it will be delayed till the end of April or May.
For those who can’t wait, there is some good news. Details about a new ICS ROM have just surfaced on the internet. The new ROM has Android Ice cream sandwich 4.0.3 version. We can easily see that many of the features in the original ice cream sandwich OS is provided here and it also looks the same as well. Even if the ROM is in the testing phase and is an early build, it looks promising enough to be used.
Since this is a test version, many of the standard phone features may not work in it. So forget about taking pictures with the camera or using the touch pad for navigation since they won’t work in the current beta version. The Wi-Fi hot spot functionality too won’t work. These issues will be taken care of and an improve, fully functional version of the operating system can be expected in the near future.
If you still want to get a taste of the Ice cream sandwich OS regardless of these problems then you can surely give it a shot, and it is worth it. But one thing to note is that, you must back up all the required phones content before doing the update.
This is because there is a good chance of the data being lost during the transition especially the contents in the phone memory. So back up all the files including the contact list and calendar entries to the computer to avoid loss of data. Also if you are a novice and don’t have any experience playing around with the smartphone software, then you better wait for the official release of ICS because it is better late than never. Also read about the iterative comparison between the Sony Xperia Play and the Apple iPhone 4
