Sony Xperia Z Launched at CES 2013: Top 5 Software Features of the 1080p HD Handset

Sony's flagship smartphones may not have sizzled the smartphone arena when it comes to sales, but, the Japanese phone maker definitely knows how to score all the media attention this CES 2013, especially when it comes to their latest handset launch - Sony Xperia Z. The flagship handset had been making rounds in several picture leaks, speculations and reports since quite sometime for its high-end features and finally on the advent of the Las Vegas the handset made an appearance snobbishly.

 

Xperia Z is quite unique among the other cutting-edge handsets, as it is water resistant to a depth of about 1 meter with plastic flaps over the ports. The smartphone comes with glass panel on its front and back similar to Nexus 4. Moreover, Sony has made the handset capable enough to capture images and record videos while under water.

Xperia Z is believed by tech experts to bring in a new hope to Sony, as it can deliver impressive performance as other high-end rivals including Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 5.

Sony smartphones have not exactly fared well against its competitors in the recent years. But, the company is making constant attempts and now it seems to be determined to get its mobile powerhouse in order.

Xperia Z (known as Yuga) is not the only offering from Sony in 2013 as it is also having a similar high-end smartphone - Xperia ZL (Odin), which will come with similar specifications and slightly different design and shape. However, the handset will not have waterproof capability.

Display: The handset comes with a 5 inch full HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and with Mobile Bravia Engine 2.

Processor: In this segment, Xperia Z comes with a quad core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor.

Operating System: Xperia Z comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

Camera: The handset has a 13MP rear camera and a 2.2MP front camera for video calling.

Storage: In terms of storage, Xperia Z comes with 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.

Connectivity: When it comes to data connectivity, Xperia Z comes packed with features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and 4G LTE.

Battery: The handset is powered by a 2,330 mAh battery, claimed to offer better backup.

Price & Availability

According to the company statement, in selected markets, Xperia Z will be made available from Q1 2013, however, there is no word regarding the price of the handset.

Mobile Bravia Engine 2

Xperia Z comes with a full HD 1080p Mobile Bravia Engine 2 display with excellent viewing experience alongside superior clarity and brightness.

Exmor RS and HDR Technology

Sony has incorporated excellent camera capabilities in Xperia Z with 13MP rear Exmor RS rear camera, which has capacibilities as Sony digital cameras. Also, the camera has HDR (High Dynamic Range) support, giving clear images against strong backlight enabling users to capture sharp pictures and videos.

Battery Stamina Mode

Xperia Z also includes Battery STAMINA Mode that can improve the standby time by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.

Media applications

Sony media applications including Walkman, Album and Movies offer a consistent entertainment experience across a range of Sony devices. Walkman application provides access to all downloaded music, a library of 18 million songs to explore from Music Unlimited and Facebook social integration. Movies application gives consumers access to over 100,000 movies and TV series from Video Unlimited while the Album application enables easy access to Facebook friends' photos as well as browsing photos by location.

One-touch functions

One-touch functions enable consumers to easily share music, photos and videos from their smartphone to an array of NFC-enabled Sony devices, including speakers, headphones and now TVs.
