Sony Xperia Z1 Hands On Review: First look

|

The Xperia Z1 looks stiff and harder as compared to Xperia Z. Sony Xperia Z1 is a bit heavier ( 170g) and thicker (8.5mm) , when compared to Xperia Z( 146g). The newest member also comes with water and dust proof capability, again unique to Sony devices. Every port has a flab to cover except headphone jack. The edges are slightly curved, making the design addictive in nature. The phone also houses a dock connector on the left-hand side. We like the idea of waistband that goes hand in hand with a camera phone.

The Xperia Z1 not only blessed with amazing looks, but it also stuffed with beefy processor. Under the hood, there is a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM (expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card slot). The internal memory available for a user stands at 11GB. It is interesting to compare Z1 with LG G2, as both devices have Snapdragon 800 processor (quad-core). On the software side, the Xperia Z1 comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and on the top of it regular Xperia UI. As usual, the Xperia UI is not nearby stock Android experience, but we have no complaints about UI what's so ever. Sony has also updated Walkman, picture and Video app.

Let's not forget that Sony Xperia Z1 is a dedicated camera phone. Its 20.7MP camera sensor is the biggest USP. Sony not only increased pixel count, but this time around the camera sensor has been increased. Sony says they have collaborated with Cyber-shot team, as they have expertise in making amazing cameras. The use of G Lens and a BIONZ image processor is said to blur the lines between a Point & Shoot camera and smartphone camera phone. The Camera UI is divided into two parts: Superior Auto and Manual.

We're quite impressed with the way the camera works. The Camera UI is simple to understand, and users would not face any issues to imbibe how to take pictures from Z1. Sony introduced a new camera feature called AR (Augmented Reality). Basically, it let you take some funny shots. Well, we're not that impressed with this feature. Moreover, there are more apps available that you need to download. In a short period of time, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Sony Xperia Z1.
