Alongside the Xperia Z3 smartphone, Sony has also unveiled the mini variant of the handset dubbed as the Xperia Z3 Compact a the IFA 2014 teach show in Berlin.
There are hardly any differences between the two devices except the display size. Moreover, since the Compact version is bit smaller, it comes with a smaller display measuring 4.6-inch. However, the resolution is also downsized to HD (1280x720 pixels).
"At Sony Mobile, ‘flagship' now means offering a choice to consumers of enjoying a large screen Xperia Z3 for immersive entertainment or a more compact, lighter Xperia Z3 Compact that doesn't ask you to compromise on features," says Kunimasa Suzuki, President & CEO, Sony Mobile Communications.
Further he also added, "Consumers demand and deserve greatness from their smartphone - in design, camera and battery life. That's precisely what we aim to deliver with Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, at the same time as delivering leading innovations such as unique Sony camera experiences and, for the first time, PS4 Remote Play in two beautifully designed, fully waterproof smartphones."
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact: Key Specifications
The smartphone comes with a 4.6-inch HD IPS (1280x720 pixels) display powered by Triluminos technology with BraviaTV expertise. It is powered by Snapdragon 801 quad core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Adreno 330 GPU. It has a relatively lesser 2GB RAM and runs on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) OS.
The Xperia Z3 Compact shares the camera specs with the larger model. It uses the same 20.7MP rear camera with Exmos RS sensor, HDR photos and videos, 4K video recording, while at the front you will get to see a 2.2 MP camera with 1080p video recording capability.
The smartphone houses 16GB internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
Connectivity options include: 4G LTE / 3G, WiFi 820.11 a/b/g/n/ac , Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X, GPS/ GLONASS, MHL and NFC.
The IP65/68 certified device measures 8.6 mm thick and weighs 129 grams and is powered by a 2600mAh Battery with STAMINA mode.
The Xperia Z3 Compact according to Sony is the only compact smartphone to bring the uncompromised performance in a beautifully slim and light design. Boasting durable tempered glass panels on both sides and surrounded by a rounded frame, Xperia Z3 Compact is surely a premium class device.
The device is IP 65/68 certified for resistance to both dust and water. The ﬁrst digit in the two-digit IP rating indicates the level of protection against solid objects, including tiny dust particles. The second digit indicates how resistant the device is to water.
Further it is a waterproof phone as well and users can take pictures with the best smartphone camera while swimming in fresh water for up to 30 minutes. You can even dive down to 1.5 metres with it. Just remember that all the covers for the micro USB port, the micro SIM slot and the memory card slot must be firmly closed.
With Sony's proprietary Exmor RS for mobile sensor and the first ISO 12800 users can take best images on low light condition and still get the shot you want. It boasts of the highest ISO of any smartphones compared to the average smartphone ISO at the time of release and also touts the larger camera sensor compared to the average smartphone sensor size.
The Xperia Z3 Compact offers a wide range of connectivity options like NFC, via which you can share photos, music and more between two Android devices or between your Android device and an NFC-enabled laptop, with just a single touch to the other device.
Users will also be able to view photos from their Android device on TV. To do that users need to activate screen mirroring by simply touching the Android device with the BRAVIA TV remote.
With PS4 Remote Play users can seamlessly switch from your PS4 console to their smartphone or tablet. They will simply have to connect the device to their home Wi-Fi, and play games using the DUALSCHOCK 4 controller. Pick up the battle where you left off, or start a new one away from your console.
