Smart watches aren't a new concept, but what made our tech vendors to reintroduce in the market. Call it a new beginning of an era, where the size of computer hardly matters. Samsung and LG both started the trend of smartwatch phones, back in 2009. Then, the consumers were probably not interested to imbibe "smart watch "as a category.
Now the trend of smart watches is catching fast. The stupendous success of Pebble smartwatch might be the reason, why International tech vendors are so keen to being wearable computers in the market. At this year's IFA tech show, Samsung introduced the much needed Galaxy Gear, an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean powered smart watch.
The watch also features camera and a microphone. On the other hand Japanese giant Sony has also come up with SmartWatch2, a stylish smart watch that let you check e-mails, receive calls, amongst other functions.
The Galaxy Gear will go on sale in India starting September 25, whereas Sony promoted SmartWatch 2 is already available at Rs 14,990. If budget is an issue, then you can check out Sony's older generation SmartWatch. Priced at Rs. 7,990, it could be a cheap option without much sacrifice.

Casio G- Shock GB 6900AB-1
Casio's G-Shock needs no introduction. With changing environment, Casio had added low-power Bluetooth 4.0 that makes it multi-functional in nature. The watch is rugged in nature, like an ordinary Casio G -Shock watch. What's good about this particular model is that when connected with your iPhone, it can read messages and even take calls. Currently: iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1 / iOS 6.0.1 / iOS 6.0), iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1 / iOS 6.0.1 / iOS 6.0 / iOS 5.1.1) are compatible with G-Shock watch. You need to download G-Shock + app from app store to get started. On the downside, Casio G -Shock GB 6900AB-1 is not compatible with Android mobile OS yet. Asking price - Rs 9,995
Sony SmartWatch 2
SmartWatch 2 is a successor to original Smartwatch. The new version of SmartWatch 2 features NFC technology. The wearable computing watch is powered by Android mobile OS; however, Sony SmartWatch 2 is not compatible with iOS yet. If you have an Android powered device (above v4.0), then only you can connect the watch with your smartphone or tablet. Undoubtedly, the watch comes with an amazing design. When connected your device, it let you check your notifications, music player, receive calls, read SMS, Facebook and e-mails. The watch is completely waterproof (IP57). On normal usage, the watch can run up to 3-4 days, which is satisfactory. The watch packs a 1.6-inch display, but we found the display resolution underpowered. Samsung Galaxy Gear
The Galaxy Gear is much more appealing in terms of design, when compared to Sony SmartWatch2. Both devices are similar in terms of usage and functions. The Galaxy Gear comes powered by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. At this hour, Samsung Galaxy Gear is compatible with select Android phones. The Gear is not compatible with Apple devices. The I'm Watch is compatible with Android, iOS and BlackBerry 10. It runs on a customized version of Android or I'm Droid 2. The watch has a tiny 1.5-inch display having resolution of 240 x 240 pixels. The I'm Watch is comfortable in running app. There's a dedicated market place - I'market. The intelligent watch needs to be connected via Bluetooth. The device let you check e-mails, Facebook, Twitter, messages and notifications. Text messages integration is missing. Sony SmartWatch (older generation)
