Xiaomi Mi3: World's First Flagship Phone Powered By Nvidia Tegra 4 Launched At IFA 2013
Xiaomi, another Chinese consumer electronic product manufacturer like Meizu, announced their most anticipated handset called Xiaomi Mi3 at IFA 2013 recently taking place in Berlin. In fact, the Mi3 is an upgraded variant of the Mi2 handset that was launched last year. The new Mi3 actually comes in two variants: TD-SCDMA and WCDMA / CDMA2000. The only difference between that two is the processor that is mentioned in the following specs section.
Going by the specs, the latest Xiaomi Mi3 comes packed with a 5-inch IPS display offering stunning display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a high pixel density rated at 441 PPI. It also uses a one-glass solution (OGS) ultra-sensitive touch technology that lets you use the phone even when it's wet or while wearing gloves. It is also protected by a Corning Gorilla glass.
In terms of power, Mi3 draws the power from a 1.8 GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor with 72 core GeForce GPU for the TD-SCDMA variant and 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM 8974AB) processor with Adreno 330 GPU for the WCDMA / CDMA2000 version. Both variants run on MIUI v5 on top of Android platform. Both variants are supported by 2GB DDR3 RAM.
Moving on to camera, one can find a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor RS BSI sensor accompanied by 28mm lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel BSI front-facing camera with 30mm lens. Both the cameras can record videos at 1080p full HD resolution.
When it comes to internal storage capacity, the device will come in two choices one with 16GB and other with 64 GB internal memory. Connectivity options remain regular and include 3G, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC.
The device that measures 114×72×8.1mm is powered by a 3050mAh battery and weighs 145g.
The Xiaomi Mi3 comes in a wide range of colors (White, Black, Grey, Pink, Yellow and Blue) and is priced at $327 (approx. Rs. 21,421) for the 16GB variant and 64GB comes priced at $408 (approx. Rs. 26,687).
Competition Point
The handset will come in direct contest with the newly launched Meizu MX3 that is loaded with monstrous specs. To be more precise, it comes packed with 5.1-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1800×1080pixel and 415ppi. The device is powered by Exynos 5410 Octa processor with 4 Cortex A7 at 1.2GHz and 4 Cortex A15 at 1.6GHz coupled with 2GB RAM. One can also find PowerVR SGX544 GPU supporting the system along with 128GB of storage capacity. Meizu MX3 is said to be available in multiple variants viz. 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Meizu MX3 runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 along with the layering of Meizu's custom Flyme 3.0 skin.
The phablet features 8MP rear shooter with 2MP front facing snapper. Connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC comes with the device. The powerful handset is backed by a 2400mAh battery which would provide t lease 9 hours of 3G browsing time and 10 hours of WiFi browsing time. The device would be available in a variety of colors like Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Orange and more at a price of $410 (approx. Rs. 27,064) for 16GB variant and $650 (approx. Rs. 42,906) for 128GB.
Conclusion
Looking at the specs of both the handsets, most will be in a dilemma as to which one is better. However, closer look can give a perfect picture of the two devices. The Xiaomi comes with a better display and good pricing while in terms of power, the Meizu will definitely beat the former. Again, Xiaomi Mi3 comes at a bit lesser price while compared to the that of Meizu MX3.
