Zen Mobile a New Delhi based company has added another product to its portfolio, Ultraphone U1 – a dual SIM smartphone for Rs 4,999 in the already haunted budget smartphone market. 

At the launch event, Mr. Deepesh Gupta, Managing Director Zen Mobile was quoted stating, "We at Zen Mobiles aim to deliver consumer friendly products, with latest innovations in place. Key Specs

Display: Ultraphone U1 sports a 3.5 inch capacitive touch screen display with 480 x 320 pixel resolution.

Processor: The handset is equipped with a 1GHz processor under its hood.

Operating System: Similar to many other budget smartphones, the Zen offering is also based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

Storage: Speaking of storage, Ultraphone U1 has 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage support.

Camera: The handset sports a 3.2MP rear camera with LED flash and digital zoom, but it lacks a front camera for video calling.

Connectivity:In terms of connectivity, the handset comes packed with dual SIM, 3G via Dongle, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and micro USB port.

Battery: As claimed by the company, the smartphone is loaded with an 1,200 mAh battery delivering 5 hours talk time and 144 hours standby.

Preloaded Applications

Zen Ultraphone U1 comes with pre-loaded with apps like Skype, Facebook, G-talk, Whatsapp, MapMyIndia mapping software, nexGTV and GaneshaSpeaks.


Zen has priced Ultraphone U1 at Rs 4,999 making it reasonable in the price conscious market.

Rivals Micromax A25 Smarty

Micromax is a well known low cost tech manufacturer in India with a record of successful product launches. The company launched a budget Android Gingerbread smartphone dubbed as A25 Smarty in September.

Micromax A25 Smaty packs a 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 240 x 320 pixel resolution, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS, 1GHz processor, 256MB RAM, 120MB internal memory, a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB, 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and a 1,280 mAh Li-ion battery offering 4 hours talk time and 180 hours standby.

Priced at Rs 3,899, is relatively cheaper than the Zen offering, but the latter has a larger display, which could be an added advantage.
