Honor 9S: Design

The Honor 9S is the latest budget smartphone from Huawei's sub smartphone brand Honor. This is an entry-level smartphone with a slightly outdated design. However, if you have a tight budget but still want an Android smartphone, then the Honor 9S is one of the few options available in the market. The Honor 9S has a 5.45-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. In fact, the display on the Honor 9S looks much better than the iPhone SE 2020, which costs almost 8 times more than the Honor 9S. The screen is protected by a 2.5D curved tempered glass to offer added protection.

Honor 9S: Hardware Performance

The Honor 9S is based on the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, which is found on some of the entry-level smartphones that cost twice as much the Honor 9S. This is an octa-core processor with a peak CPU clock speed of 2.0GHz, capable of handling most of the tasks without any issue. The smartphone offers 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage with a microSD card slot for additional storage expansion. Again, for the asking price, the company is offering plenty of storage and RAM, capable of handling light gaming and normal day-to-day tasks without any issue.

Honor 9S: Camera Performance

The Honor 9S's primary camera layout looks like a triple camera setup unit but the device just offers a single 8MP sensor with an LED flash. The primary camera is capable of recording 1080p videos and it also offers various camera modes and can take good looking photos in normal day-light conditions. The device has a 5MP selfie camera at the front with a 1080p video recording capability. Again, during daylight, the camera can take good pictures and one can easily attend online classes using the selfie camera without any issue.

Honor 9S: Price To Specs Ratio

The Honor 9S retails for Rs. 5,999, making it an excellent budget smartphone. The specs sheet offered on the device is pretty amazing for the asking price and one should not have any issues while performing normal day-to-day tasks. However, do note that the smartphone does not offer Google Play Store and you might not be able to use some of your favorite apps like YouTube Gmail natively on this device due to the absence of GPS or Google Play Services.

Honor 9S: Important Features/Highlights

The Honor 9S has a pretty modern design for a smartphone that costs Rs. 6,000 and it also comes with a 3,020 mAh battery that could easily last for an entire day for regular users. The device has a micro USB port for charging and data syncing along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. As per the connectivity, the Honor 9S has dual nano-SIM card slots and the phone does support 4G LTE and VoLTE on both slots. Besides, the device also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and single-channel Wi-Fi (2.4GHz).

Honor 9S: Verdict

The Honor 9S is a great entry-level smartphone that looks much modern when compared to the similarly priced devices. The hardware on the device is more than enough to manage normal day-to-day tasks and the only drawback is that the device does not come with Google Play Services.

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
