Huawei Y9s: Design

The Huawei Y9s is the latest upper mid-range smartphone from Huawei India with support for Google Play Services. The smartphone has a premium design with a pop-up selfie camera and the device has a 6.59-inch bezel-less IPS LCD screen with higher screen-to-body ratio. The Huawei Y9s has a glass back panel with a 2.5D curved tempered glass, which gives the device a premium look. There is triple camera setup at the back and the phone does have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Huawei Y9s: Hardware Performance

The Huawei Y9s is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 710F, the same processor that powers the Honor 9x, which also has a pop-up selfie camera. The smartphone does offer 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and a microSD card slot for additional storage expansion. The smartphone can handle multitasking without any issue, thanks to 6GB RAM and the Kirin 710F. However, this is not the best performing phone when it comes to heavy gaming as the GPU on the Kirin 710F isn't that capable.

Huawei Y9s: Camera Performance

The Huawei Y9s has a triple camera setup at the back with a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The main camera setup performance is similar to the Honor 9x, as they use a similar camera setup and even the processor is the same. The smartphone has a 16MP pop-up selfie camera, helping the device to offer a higher screen to body ratio. Both the main camera and the selfie camera can record 1080p videos and also offers portrait mode and can take some good pictures in the low light environment.

Huawei Y9s: Price To Specs Ratio

The Huawei Y9s retails for Rs. 19,990 in India and offers 128GB storage. When compared to the Honor 9X Pro with similar design and pricing, Huawei Y9s is a bit expensive considering there is a smartphone that costs less and offers better performance from the same company. The Huawei Y9s is a good device. However, for the asking price, one might get a device that offers better gaming and camera performance. However, if you want a Huawei device with a pop-up selfie camera, then you can consider this device.

Huawei Y9s: Important Features/Highlights

The Huawei Y9s has a 4,000 mAh battery and the phone does support fast charging via the USB Type-C port. The phone also has a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack, which can be used to connect a wired headphone to the device. Similarly, the smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie OS with custom EMUI skin on top, which is one of the cons of the device. Lastly, the smartphone does offer a bezel-less display design, making this device great for watching videos and movies.

Huawei Y9s: Verdict

The Huawei Y9s is a good upper mid-range smartphone for those who want a phone with a modern-looking display and a pop-up selfie camera. However, if you want a more performance-oriented device, then you can consider a device like the Honor 9X Pro, that almost offers similar features at a lower price tag along with a more powerful processor.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.
