LG Velvet: Design

LG has a new addition, namely the LG Velvet. The new series fall under the premium segment with flagship features. The design of the new LG Velvet includes a 6.8-inch full-HD+ POLED display with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio with 1080 x 2460 pixels resolution. There is a waterdrop notch that houses the selfie camera in a minimalist design, which gives users plenty of screen real estate for video playback and gaming. There is also an option to upgrade with a dual-screen accessory.

LG Velvet: Processor Performance

The LG Velvet smartphone available in India draws power from the octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. The phone comes in a single variant of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage default memory capacity. This storage can be expanded up to another up to 1TB with the help of a MicroSD Card. The 6GB RAM and the SD 845 processor can easily handle all the routine smartphone tasks of browsing, messaging, capturing photos, and even gaming. Even if you’re a multitasker, the LG Velvet can be an ideal choice for you.

LG Velvet: Camera Performance

Moving on, the LG Velvet packs a triple-camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor paired with an f/1.8 lens. The other two camera sensors include an 8MP wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view and another 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. For selfies, it gets a 16MP front-facing camera, housed in the waterdrop notch. LG cameras are quite popular to capture great photos in good lighting and the same can be said for the LG Velvet.

LG Velvet: Important Features/Highlights

There are a couple of features that make the LG Velvet stand out in the crowded smartphone market. Firstly, LG has included an option to upgrade to a dual-display via an accessory, which helps with several smartphone tasks. The LG Velvet is fueled by a 4,300 mAh battery with both fast and wireless charging support. Besides, the handset is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance and is MIL-STD-810G certified. The LG Velvet features stereo speakers with LG's 3D Sound Engine.

LG Velvet: Price-To-Specs Ratio

The LG Velvet ships for Rs. 36,990 and the dual-Screen accessory will cost Rs. 49,990. This puts the LG Velvet in league with other flagship phones like the OnePlus 8T, Samsung Galaxy S20, and so on. However, the LG Velvet surely does stand out with its pOLED screen, IP rating, efficient performance, and standard camera delivery. As a stark comparison, the OnePlus 8T doesn’t have wireless charging support, which is found on the LG Velvet.

LG Velvet: Verdict

LG has been trying to make a comeback in the smartphone market and the company has done a good job with the Velvet. If you’re looking for a premium smartphone, the LG Velvet would make a great choice. If you’re a content creator working mainly on the smartphone, an upgrade to the dual-screen accessory will further assist you – of course, only if budget permits!

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
