Moto G9: Design

The Moto G9 is one of the latest budget smartphones to hit the Indian market and comes as the successor to the Moto G8. The smartphone features a 6.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 20:9 ratio (~269 ppi density). The display packs a waterdrop notch that houses the selfie camera and provides an 87 percent screen-to-body ratio. The Moto G9 packs a plastic unibody in the trademark water-repellant design.

Moto G9: Hardware Performance

The Motorola Moto G9 is powered by the octa-core 2GHz, Qualcomm Snapdragon 662. The processor is coupled with the Adreno 610 GPU and is available with 4GB RAM and 64GB default onboard storage, which can further be expanded up to 512GB via a microSD card. The Moto G9 isn’t a game-centric phone, but it can handle most of the popular gaming titles like PUBG. If the device included a better pixel rating, the gaming experience would have been better.

Moto G9: Camera Performance

The camera setup on the Moto G9 includes a triple-camera module. The smartphone sports a 48 MP (f/1.7, primary) + 2 MP (f/2.4, depth) + 2 MP (f/2.4, macro) triple cameras with LED flash with 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps, HDR, slow motion video, timelapse video, hyper-lapse video, portrait mode. For selfies, the brand has included an 8MP (f/2.2) sensor in the waterdrop notch of the display. With a 48MP sensor and added features, the Moto G9 should be able to click some really good pictures.

Moto G9: Price To Specs Ratio

The Motorola Moto G9 ships at Rs. 11,499 and is a good choice to buy under Rs. 12,000. The device comes in a single variant with 4GB RAM, which is capable of handling day-to-day activities including a bit of gaming. The Moto G9 runs stock Android 10 OS, which further adds to the clean user interface. The camera module is quite satisfactory for this price range. Expect for the low-resolution screen, the Moto G9 is a good budget smartphone.

Moto G9: Important Features/Highlights

The Moto G9 gets the power from a non-removable Li-ion 5,000 mAh battery with 20W fast charging support. The company claims the battery lasts up to two days, but that would entirely depend on the usage. The Moto G9 also includes a 3.5mm audio jack and comes with the usual connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, WiFi Direct, hotspot, v5.0, USB (2.0) Type-C, with A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and hybrid Dual SIM slot.

Moto G9: Verdict

The Motorola Moto G9 is a good choice if you’re looking for a budget smartphone under Rs. 12,000. The large battery capacity and fast charging support are some of the best features in this price range. Plus, the Moto G9 runs stock Android 10 OS, leaving you free of loaded bloatware. The smartphone is set to compete with devices like the Redmi 9 Prime, Realme Narzo 10, and so on. But considering its clean UI, the Moto G9 makes a good choice for this price bracket.

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Camera

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Battery

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

Display

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

Performance

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
