Oppo A15s: Design

The A15s joins the list of Oppo’s budget smartphone portfolios. The device is launched with a waterdrop notch design. The smartphone flaunts a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display which has a standard HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. The panel comes with 269PPI pixel density and 60Hz refresh rate. The device has a decent display panel for daily usage and 720P video playback on-the-go. The rear panel has a single-tone gradient surface with a square-shaped camera module on the top-left. The design is somewhat similar to the Oppo A53. The back panel also has a circular fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

Oppo A15s: Hardware Performance

The Oppo A15s utilizes the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset under the food for processing. The processor is based on 12nm FinFET architecture and is combined with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The device will be able to handle-low-end tasks with ease. There will be no lags or stutters with web surfing and calling/texting. To take care of the multitasking, the processor will ship with 4GB RAM. The onboard storage space offered is 64GB. However, to meet additional storage requirements, the device has external storage support as well.

Oppo A15s: Price To Specs Ratio

The Oppo A15s will be retailing at Rs. 11,490 in India. The device can be bought in Fancy White, Dynamic Black, and Rainbow silver color options. The pricing seems to be a bit on the higher side considering the competition. In this price segment, Poco has also introduced its budget Poco M3 smartphone which offers better display and other features. A sub Rs. 10,000 price mark is what was expected.

Oppo A15s: Camera Performance

The Oppo A15s has debuted with three rear cameras. The usage of triple-lens setup for imaging has been a major shift in recent times. The camera setup on the Oppo A15s comprises a 13MP main lens paired with a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. The cameras will be delivering a balanced performance with daylight shots. Don’t expect a superior performance with a low-light situation. Basic photography is what best suited for this handset.

Oppo A15s: Important/ Highlight Features

The Oppo A15s has a decent sized battery (4,230mAh), keeping the lights on. Unfortunately, the battery comes void of any fast charging support. This might come as another bummer for the masses. The battery size could have been bigger than 4,500 mAh. This is because the competition is offering a 5,000 or 6,000 mAh battery units under Rs. 15,000 price tag. The Android version is also older, i.e, Android 10 OS. It is layered with Color OS 7.2 skin.

Oppo A15s: Verdict

The Oppo A15s just adds to the crowd in the budget smartphone segment in India. Several devices offer similar or better hardware in this price range (Rs. 11,000- Rs. 12,000). One of the biggest rivals of the Oppo A15s is definitely the Poco M3 which has been launched at an asking price of Rs. 10,999. You get a better deal overall if you select the latter.

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
