Vivo Y17: Design

The Vivo Y17 looks and feels almost similar to the Vivo Y15 with some added improvements. The smartphone flaunts a triple rear-camera setup at the back with a rear-facing fingerprint sensor and a triple rear-camera setup. At the front, the device has a 6.3-inch IPS display with HD+ (720p) resolution, protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass. The smartphone has a power button and the volume buttons on the right side of the smartphone.

Vivo Y17 Hardware Performance

The Vivo Y17 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, which is a pretty good mid-tier chipset based on 12nm manufacturing architecture. The chipset can even handle games like PUBG, as it just has to push lesser pixels (720p) on the 720p display compared to most of the other smartphones in the price range with a 1080p display. The chipset is combined with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, which should be more than enough to store a dozen of HD movies, a ton of offline music, and thousands of photos.

Vivo Y17 Camera Performance

The Vivo Y17 has a triple rear-camera setup with a 13 MP primary RGB sensor, an 8 MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 5 MP depth sensor. At the front, the device has a 20 MP selfie camera with a ton of selfie enhancing features. The smartphone can record videos at a maximum resolution of 1080 @ 30fps, and the device is capable of taking panorama shots and portrait mode on the primary and the secondary camera setup.

Vivo Y17: Price To Specs Ratio

The Vivo Y17 retails in India for Rs. 15,990, which seems like a bit expensive price tag, especially for the smartphone of this caliber. Though the smartphone has a triple camera setup, it still lacks 4K video recording, which is a bit of a letdown. The smartphone also has a 720p display, which might not be the best option for smartphones that cost around Rs. 16,000, as there are smartphones with FHD+ resolution display and costs at least Rs. 5,000 less than the Vivo Y17.

Vivo Y17: Important Features/Highlights

The Vivo Y17 has a 5000 mAh Li-ion battery, which makes it a great marathon smartphone when it comes to the battery life. Though the device has a low-resolution screen, it is still great to see a water-drop notch display, which makes it a great looking device. The smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie with custom ColorOS 6.0 skin on top, which makes the Vivo Y17 the latest software running device.

Vivo Y17: Verdict

The 5000 mAh battery on the Vivo Y17 is a great, especially combined with 128 GB of internal storage. With the combination of a big battery and big storage, one can binge a tv series (by downloading on to the device) on a single charge without having to recharge a battery. For all the remaining tasks, there are a lot of smartphones, which offers better screen and better CPU and GPU performance, and will also cost less than the Vivo Y17.

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
