Amazon Prime Day 2024 Shatters Sales Records in India

Peak Orders and Swift Deliveries

Prime Day 2024 achieved a new peak with 24,196 orders placed by Prime members in a single minute. The volume of items purchased surpassed all previous Prime Day events. Additionally, this year saw the highest number of same-day deliveries, with most orders in metro areas being delivered within a day, and orders from tier-2 cities within two days.

Boost for Small and Medium Businesses

More than 65% of the small and medium businesses (SMBs) receiving sales during Prime Day 2024 were from tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Two-thirds of Prime members who shopped during the event were from non-metro cities, highlighting the broadening reach of e-commerce in India.

New Products and Great Deals

Prime members had access to thousands of new product launches from over 450 brands, including Samsung, OnePlus, and Motorola, and over 3,200 launches from SMBs. Categories like smartphones, home entertainment, and beauty products saw significant growth compared to previous years.

Rise in Amazon Pay Usage

Spending on the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card during Prime Day 2024 was 50% higher than the previous year. Prime members also booked over 50 million kilometers of domestic and international flights, marking a 24% increase from Prime Day 2023.

Entertainment and More

Prime Video played a major role in the lead-up to Prime Day, launching 15 new titles across five languages. The highly anticipated "Mirzapur Season 3" became the most-watched show on Prime Video in India, also trending in over 85 countries during the launch weekend. Prime Video continued to expand its global reach, with viewers from 200 countries tuning in to watch Prime Day releases.

Diverse Shopping Trends

This year, there were notable shifts in customer preferences:

  • Over 70% of smartphone demand came from tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
  • Apple iPads saw a 23x increase in sales, and Samsung Galaxy Tabs experienced a 17x surge.
  • Home entertainment sales grew by 26%.
  • Amazon Fresh saw a 1.6x growth in breakfast items like muesli and dry fruits.
  • Beauty products from brands like Sugar Cosmetics and Lakme saw up to 3x growth.
  • Premium appliances like high-capacity washing machines and smartwatches saw significant sales increases.

Support for SMBs and Local Shops

SMBs, including women entrepreneurs, artisans, and weavers, sold over 1,600 units per minute during Prime Day. The Launchpad program helped over 440 unique businesses gain sales. Additionally, more than 75,000 local shop sellers participated, offering over 12 million unique products.
