Android P running on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro
The developers from XDA-Developers have managed to install an early build of the upcoming Android P on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro despite the fact that the developer preview is only for the Google devices
Search giant Google has announced the first Developer Preview of the upcoming Android version -dubbed as Android P- last month in March. However, the release is only for the Google devices like the Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel 2, and Google Pixel 2 XL.
The developers from XDA-Developers have managed to install an early build of the upcoming Android P on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro despite the fact that the developer preview is only available for the Google devices and technically on the Huawei Watch 2 for Wear OS based on Android P
For now, we can assume that a ROM developer has managed to port Android P over via Project Treble, which has made it possible to port a vanilla Android ROM to the smartphone, which will come with a heavily redesigned OEM skins like the Galaxy S9. However, the Android P turns out to be built with EMUI for the Chinese version of the Mate 10.
The Huawei device ROM service called Funky Huawei is required to rebrand the Mate 10 Pro to a Chinese Mate 10. Then the developers managed to install the built to the Mate 10 Pro while using the Funky Huawei service.
However, the build is far from the actual one and doesn't offer features like Material Design 2 or new iPhone X style gesture navigation. The EMUI version is listed as 8.2 and the build is indeed Android P because the build number is listed at 9.0 and the Android Easter Egg is for Android P.
Huawei might implement their own version of this features. While considering the fact that Huawei has already implemented their own iPhone X style navigation bar called single-key navigation.
XDA-Developers are very much confident about the build, which is running on the device is indeed an internal testing build of Android P for the Huawei Mate 10. The developers are assuming that this build of P is even newer than the actual public Developer Release.
So far we have this much information on the upcoming Android P. Let's how Android P's progress will go on the Huawei flagship devices.
