Apple Expands Clean Energy and Recycling Initiatives in India with ₹100 Crore Investment
Apple is rolling out a set of new environmental initiatives in India, ranging from clean energy projects to waste reduction and startup support. The company plans to invest Rs 100 crore and says these steps support Apple's wider target of reaching carbon neutrality across its entire global operations by 2030.
A key part of Apple's plan in India centres on power generation. Apple is joining with renewable energy developer CleanMax to build more than 150 megawatts of fresh renewable energy capacity. Apple says this output could supply electricity for nearly 1.5 lakh Indian households every year, underlining the scale of the project.

Apple Expands Clean Energy and Recycling Efforts in India
Apple is expanding its clean energy partnership with CleanMax in India, moving beyond rooftop solar projects at offices and retail stores to larger renewable energy initiatives. The company indicated that the collaboration could grow further in the coming years as part of its broader sustainability goals.
Commenting on the initiative, Sarah Chandler, Apple’s vice president of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, said the company’s environmental efforts continue to drive innovation while supporting India’s clean energy economy and natural resources.
Alongside renewable energy projects, Apple is also increasing its focus on plastic waste management in India through a partnership with WWF-India. The initiative aims to improve plastic collection, sorting, and recycling systems. Apple is additionally supporting six climate-focused startups through impact investment organisation Acumen, backing businesses working in waste management, regenerative agriculture, and circular economy solutions.
Apple Environmental Initiatives India: Support for Green Startups
The partnership with Acumen includes more than just funding for the selected entrepreneurs. "The program provides mentorship, strategic guidance, technical assistance, and network access to help social entrepreneurs validate promising business models and put them on a path to scale," the tech giant explained. These resources aim to strengthen local capacity to address environmental challenges.
Apple has linked its India efforts to measurable figures and targets, highlighting how individual projects contribute to its 2030 climate goal. The table below outlines some of the key numbers associated with Apple environmental initiatives India, including investment amount, clean energy capacity, estimated household coverage, and the number of supported startups and focus areas.
| Initiative | Detail | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Renewable energy investment | Planned investment in India | Rs 100 crore |
| CleanMax partnership capacity | New renewable energy capacity | More than 150 megawatts |
| Estimated household power | Indian households potentially supplied each year | Nearly 1.5 lakh |
| Green startup grants | Startups receiving catalytic grants via Acumen | Six |
| Startup focus areas | Waste management, regenerative agriculture, circular economy and consumption | Three main sectors |
| Global climate target | Apple carbon neutrality deadline for entire footprint | 2030 |
Through these combined projects in renewable energy, plastic management, and climate-focused entrepreneurship, Apple is expanding its environmental footprint in India while working toward its stated 2030 carbon neutral goal.
