Apple Is Said to Be in Talks With Google to Integrate Gemini AI Into iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Apple is reportedly planning to integrate more AI models across the devices, following the integration of ChatGPT on iPhone, Mac, and iPad announced at WWDC 2024.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will announce at least one other generative AI partner by the end of 2024, which is speculated to be Google Gemini. According to rumours, Gemini has been linked to the iOS 18 chatbot alongside OpenAI, and Apple software chief Craig Federighi hinted at a Google partnership right after the World Wide Developer Conference.

Anthropic is another company that Apple is said to be in talks with, although no deal has been confirmed yet suggests the report. Meta's Llama model was said to be out of the Apple Intelligence race due to its shortcomings.

Apple Intelligence Could Be the Avenue to Generate Revenue

Apple is also said to be working on its own generative AI model that will power some of the Apple Intelligence experiences, which is expected to debut in beta form this fall. The company aims to generate direct profits from AI rather than just using it as a feature for hardware products.

Gurman also suggests that Apple could eventually introduce subscription-only features for Apple Intelligence, which, at first is coming to only the premium iPhone 15 Pro series via an upcoming update.

In the meantime, Apple will continue to earn revenue from in-app purchases related to its AI partners' chatbot subscriptions. Integrating third-party AI services could serve as an interim solution for the tech giant while it develops its generative AI system, where, to unlock the full potential of ChatGPT-powered Siri, one will need a ChatGPT+ subscription.

This would provide users with more choices, and in the coming days, Apple might even allow users to select the AI model that they like on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
