Bulk SMS, MMS Ban Withdrawn by Indian Government
Instead of the reported deadline of August 31, the Indian Government has withdrawn the ban on bulk SMSes and MMSes with immediate effect from August 30 itself.
It was only last week, when the Indian government imposed a ban on bulk SMSes and MMSes, in order to hinder the randomly rumors regarding the violence in Assam. However, on August 23, the government brought a relieving news for the baffled customers by announcing that restriction of 5 SMSes per day has been increased to 20 SMSes per day.

"After reviewing the matter again on Thursday, the ministry lifted the restriction allowing citizens to use text messages and MMSes without any limit of numbers with immediate effect," said a home ministry official in the TOI report.
Ban was imposed a few days back when humungous number of messages started to circulate the country regarding riots in Assam, which led to the mass flee of Northeast citizens from different parts of the country.
