DoT Collaborates With RPF to Recover Missing Mobile Phones on Trains
In an innovative move to boost the safety of mobile devices for rail passengers, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has collaborated with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Ministry of Railways. This partnership aims to safeguard passengers' mobile phones during their train journeys, addressing the issue of lost or stolen devices.
The key aspect of this initiative is the integration of the Rail Madad app with the DoT's Sanchar Saathi platform. The Rail Madad app, designed by Indian Railways, offers passengers a channel to voice their complaints or concerns while traveling. With this integration, passengers now have the means to report their missing mobile devices directly through the app.

Safeguarding Mobile Devices on Trains
The essence of this collaboration involves the Sanchar Saathi portal beginning to onboard 17 Zones and over 70 Divisions of the RPF. This development allows passengers to lodge complaints about their lost or stolen mobile handsets via the Rail Madad App. These complaints are then forwarded to the Sanchar Saathi portal, which facilitates the blocking of the lost or stolen mobile handset to prevent its misuse. Moreover, this process aids in the mobile device's tracing and the generation of alerts to the RPF, enhancing the possibility of recovery.
A significant step in the implementation of this initiative was the organization of a training session for RPF officers across 17 Divisions of Indian Railways. This session saw the participation of more than 250 officers, including officials from LSA field units of the DoT. The training highlighted the citizen-centric features of the Sanchar Saathi portal/App, focusing on mobile safety. Additionally, the session covered various technological solutions designed to address new challenges, equipping the officers with the knowledge to better serve passengers.
This partnership between the DoT and the RPF marks a significant advancement in ensuring the safety and security of passengers' mobile devices during train journeys. By providing a streamlined process for reporting and addressing the issue of lost or stolen phones, the initiative not only aims to recover these devices but also to deter their theft. With the successful implementation of this program, passengers can look forward to more secure and worry-free travel on India's railways.
