Messenger Platform
As rumored, Facebook is opening up its Messenger chat app to third-party developers. According to some media reports, as many as 40 new add-on apps have already been developed so far. The company's new Messenger Platform lets you install and use third-party apps directly inside Messenger. And, the move helps make Messenger more competitive with other messaging platforms, like Line and WeChat.
Business on Messenger
Mark Zuckerberg introduced Messenger Business, a new way for Facebook users to communicate with businesses directly within its Messenger app. Now, brands can now integrate Messenger as a way to provide customers purchase information, such as receipt and shipment trackers, notes The Next Web.
Internet of Things ("IOT")
Facebook's Parse (the developer platform that Facebook acquired in 2013) has announced a number of new features at Facebook's F8 developer conference in San Francisco.
"We believe that connecting more hardware devices with the cloud has the potential to change the world for the better," said Parse in a blog post. "We are already seeing devices that add tremendous value to people's lives, from wearables that help you sleep better to insulin trackers that aid people living with diabetes."
Parse currently supports Android, iOS and Windows Phone mobile operating systems, as well as OSX, Windows, Javascript, .NET, Unity, PHP and Xamarin software.
Spherical videos on your News Feed and Oculus VR headset
Facebook will soon support videos shot with 360-degree camera tech. These offer a more immersive viewing experience. YouTube recently announced support for this format.
Enhanced plug-ins for embedded videos and comments
Videos you post on Facebook can be embedded elsewhere online. Previously, if you uploaded a video to Facebook, you could only share the video by linking to it. As for the comments plug-in, new updates would make it easy to carry conversations that occur on news sites that use Facebook comments.
