Facebook gifts Oculus Go to every F8 2018 attendee
The Oculus Go is Facebook's first standalone VR HMD (head mounted device) that was formally launched at the event after being originally unveiled at the Oculus Connect 4 event.
Facebook is holding F8 2018 conference in San Jose, California and during the keynote speech given by Mark Zuckerberg, it was announced that every single delegate present in the conference will receive an Oculus Go virtual reality headset for free.
The Oculus Go is Facebook's first standalone VR HMD (head mounted device) that was formally launched at the event after being originally unveiled at the OC4 (Oculus Connect 4) event last October. Following the launch, the device is now available for sale on Amazon for $199 which amounts to Rs. 13270.32 approximately in India.
Let's have a look at what the device has to offer in terms of features and specifications:
The device ships with Android Nougat 7.1.2 out of the box. The Oculus Go features a 5.5 inch 60 Hz display that comes with a screen resolution of 2560X1440 Pixel. The Oculus Go is powered by Snapdragon 821 and comes along with a 3GB RAM and 32Gb of inbuilt storage. It is also being speculated that the company might offer a 64GB model which would be priced at $249 that amounts to Rs. 16599.59 in Indian currency.
It is also being reported that the Oculus Go will also have access to a wide genre of content that is already available for the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. However, the Oculus Go will not come along with a position tracking technology which is available for the Oculus Rift, which implies that the users will not be able to lean into the VR games and videos which is said to potentially make the VR experience less immersive.
Facebook has also announced various new policies and has also proposed a few changes in the way it runs the service. Most of the changes that are related to data-privacy along with the way the third-party apps and services on Facebook can access the user data. Along with this, a number of changes were announced for Instagram, WhatsApp and other apps services and platforms that are operated by Facebook.
