Fitbit partners up with Google to connect user health data with medical records
Google spoke about the possible use-cases for Fitbit, Google said, "For example, using Cloud Healthcare API with Fitbit's newly acquired Twine Health platform.
Fitbit has recently announced its collaboration with Google to link the data gathered by the company's wearable to the medical records. With this Google seems to take one more step towards the healthcare industry.
As per some sources from the web, Fitbit will be taking advantage of Google's Cloud Healthcare API in order to share health data with the doctors along with some healthcare providers, and then link the data to electronic medical records (EMR). This, in turn, will give the doctors the access to patient health activity along with the medical conditions. Using this, doctors will be able to get real-time insights of a patient's fitness when they use it for Fitbit devices.
The report further suggests that apart from announcing the partnership of both the companies, a joint statement was released which said, "Finally, Fitbit and Google are collaborating to bring together the strengths of both companies to innovate and transform the future of wearables".
In addition to that, Google spoke about the possible use-cases for Fitbit, Google said, "For example, using Cloud Healthcare API with Fitbit's newly acquired Twine Health platform. The two companies will also be exploring how Google Cloud's machine learning APIs can help them uncover deeper insights to benefit their users."
Also, as a part of the deal, Fitbit says that it will use Google's existing cloud storage platform which is already compliant with the US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act are also known as HIPPA. This points that Fitbit will be able to save on compliance costs and also focus on hardware which the company already intends on doing. Following this Fitbit CEO James Park commented that, "Google's support will help the company innovate faster and bring improved services to users everywhere". "Working with Google gives us an opportunity to transform how we scale our business, allowing us to reach more people around the world faster, while also enhancing the experience we offer to our users and the healthcare system. This collaboration will accelerate the pace of innovation to define the next generation of healthcare and wearables"
It will also be worth noting the fact that Fitbit wants to be on the top of the chart when it comes to the healthcare industry. With the company's recent take over on Twine Health, it seems like Fitbit is in for a serious game. Let's see how this collaboration will benefit the users.
