Gartner: Application Development Software Market to Expand by 22.6% in 2012
According to reports from IT research firm Gartner, the application development software market in India will grow by 22.6% and will reach over $227 million in 2012. This growth will be boosted up by the increasing adoption of software delivery through cloud computing platform.
In a report titled ‘Market Trends: Application Development Software, Worldwide, 2012-2016’ Gartner explains how cloud computing has revolutionized the way by which applications are designed, tested and deployed.
According to the report, dependency on cloud computing is an emerging trend which will motivate more application development companies to “cloud enable” their existing products to be delivered in a more efficient fashion.
The report also says that around 90% of mainstream companies and government agencies will depend on some characteristics of cloud computing by 2012. Cloud computing will allow application development firms to cut down the expenses by enabling data storage and access to software on a pay per use model.
Gartner has also made a prediction that the focus of application development companies will shift to mobile application development to cater to the needs of smartphones and tablets which will overtake PC by a ratio of 4:1 by the year 2015.
Gartner added that CIOs will expect more than 20% of their employees to use tablets instead of laptops by 2013.According to the report, open source software will expand their horizon which will create a pressure on market leaders in the coming years.
The report from Gartner also mentions that open source tools will bring down the revenue for some application development categories in design, testing and web development.
