Google AI Mode Gets New Features – Ask About Images, PDFs, and Create Study Plans with Canvas
You can try it out on a desktop by simply clicking the new AI Mode button on the Google homepage.
You Can Ask Questions About Images and PDFs
You can now use AI Mode on desktop to ask questions about images, just like on the Google app on Android and iOS. Google confirms that support for PDF uploads on desktop is also coming soon, letting you ask detailed questions about documents.

AI Mode will also analyze your files, pull relevant info from the web, and provide a helpful AI response, along with prominent links. Moreover, AI Mode will support additional file types beyond PDFs and images, including files from your Google Drive in the coming months.
Make a Plan with Canvas
Google's Canvas feature in AI Mode helps you plan and stay organized, keeping track of information from different places. Whether you're prepping for a test or managing a project, Canvas lets you build and refine plans in a dynamic side panel that updates with each session.
You can even upload files like notes or syllabi to customize your study guide. In the coming weeks, users enrolled in the AI Mode Labs experiment in the U.S. will begin to see Canvas on desktop browsers. You have to look for the "Create Canvas" option that appears when you ask for help creating or planning something.
Real-time Help with Search Live
Google is also rolling out Search Live with video input, bringing advanced capabilities from Project Astra directly into AI Mode.
Search Live is fully integrated with Google Lens. To get started, just open Lens in the Google app, tap the Live icon, and ask whatever's on your mind while pointing your camera.
Search What You See While Browsing
With Lens in Chrome and AI Mode, you can now ask questions about anything on your desktop screen - webpages, PDFs, and more. Just click the address bar and select "Ask Google about this page." You'll get an AI Overview in the side panel, with a snapshot of key information directly in the side panel.
