Google wishes to combine multiple smartphones to create a Multi-Speaker Setup

Wireless speakers have become more of a necessity nowadays and the market has a number of options for the music enthusiast masses. Google, didn't wanted to be left behind, so the company rolled out its AI enabled wireless speakers called the Google Home. Most of the high-end wireless speakers available in the market can connect with multiple devices at a single time and can also be controlled by each device individually. Now as per some reports from the web, Google is working towards releasing a unified multi-speaker setup for the smartphones.

It is being reported that Google has filed a patent for a mesh based network which would combine the audio output from multiple devices and the playback will be controlled by a single device. The patent application is said to be filed with the United States Patent Trademark Office also known as USPTO. The patent filed is called 'Mesh Network of nearby Mobile Devices as a Combined Speaker for Audio', and it gives the explanation on how Google plans on making the casual listening more enjoyable experience.

The report further suggests that the Google's patent application explains a system consisting of multiple smartphones with one master device, the smartphones there will act as speakers to make it easy to play music on the mesh network. Further, the master device is said to control the entire process, be it adding or removing multiple devices and also handle playback. The patent also defines the technology as a 'mesh network of nearby mobile devices as a combined speaker system for audio'.

The master device will also manage the synchronization process and also transmit the necessary instructions to all the smartphone that are connected to complete the 'playback timestamp relative to a clock time', in order to begin the synced music playback. Further, the master device will handle the network joining request sent by a new device which is detected nearby. Once the request is processed and accepted a confirmation message will also be sent to the latest added smartphone.

Apart from syncing the music playback time, the master device is also said to receive sensor data which is recorded by all the smartphones in the network such as microphone, GPS or barometric data to 'determine the topology of the speaker mesh network' accordingly and send audio equalization instruction to the connected devices for an improved sound quality.
