Grok 4 Launches on July 10: Here’s What to Expect from Elon Musk’s Next AI Model

xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, is set to release its latest model—Grok 4—on July 10 at 8:30 AM IST.

This is the fourth version of the Grok series, and it arrives at a time when the AI space is already saturated with well-established models from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.

Grok 4 Launches on July 10: Here’s What to Expect from Elon Musk’s Nex

Two Versions: One for Everyone, One for Coders

Grok 4 is expected to come in two formats.

The standard model is designed for general use—tasks like writing, researching, translating, and basic reasoning. It will also support function calling and structured outputs, which are now common features in language models aiming to be more helpful in practical scenarios.

The second version, Grok 4 Code, is built for developers. It aims to provide support for code generation, bug detection, and development assistance, similar to what’s already offered by tools like GitHub Copilot and Cursor. Whether it brings anything new or just catches up remains to be seen.

Expected Improvements in Logic and Math

Grok 3 was criticized for struggling with multi-step logic and advanced reasoning. xAI claims that Grok 4 will improve on that, especially when handling scientific and mathematical problems. If accurate, this could make it more useful for technical users and students, not just casual chat applications.

Multimodal Capabilities: Not There Yet

For now, Grok 4 will only support text inputs. But future updates are supposed to bring image processing, image generation, and eventually audio and video support. These capabilities are increasingly becoming standard in newer AI models, though they often take time to fully implement and refine.

So while these features are on the roadmap, there’s no guarantee they’ll work smoothly or arrive soon.

A Competitive Model or Just Another Release?

The bigger question is whether Grok 4 can genuinely compete. OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are far ahead in terms of usability, scale, and trust. Most users and developers already have habits, workflows, and expectations built around existing tools.

Grok 4 might still be relevant if it offers something different—or at least does the same things in a simpler or more accessible way. Its success will likely depend on reliability and integration more than on raw power or hype.
