HDFC SmartBuy Caps Voucher Reward Points From July 1: Check the New Limits
HDFC Bank has introduced a significant change to its SmartBuy rewards platform effective July 1, 2026. The bank has imposed a separate monthly cap on accelerated Reward Points earned through brand voucher purchases on SmartBuy, specifically through GyFTR and Woohoo.
This directly impacts shoppers planning to maximise rewards during Amazon Prime Day and Flipkart GOAT Sale.

What Actually Changed
Previously, reward points earned on SmartBuy brand vouchers counted toward each card's overall monthly SmartBuy accelerated reward cap. Under the new rules, voucher purchases now have their own dedicated monthly ceiling, set at 3,000 accelerated Reward Points per calendar month for most premium HDFC credit cards, including Infinia, Diners Club Black, Diners Club Black Metal, BizBlack Metal, and Regalia Gold.
The overall monthly SmartBuy reward cap for each card remains unchanged. What has changed is that voucher purchases can now contribute only up to 3,000 accelerated points within that existing cap, after which additional voucher purchases will not earn accelerated rewards for the rest of the month.
How This Changes the Math
The practical impact is significant for heavy voucher buyers. For Infinia cardholders, the new 3,000-point monthly voucher cap is reached at around Rs. 22,500 of voucher spend per month.
Previously, an Infinia cardholder could earn the full 15,000 accelerated Reward Points every month simply by routing eligible spending through SmartBuy vouchers.
Under the new rules, only 3,000 Reward Points can be earned through vouchers, an 80 percent reduction.
| Card | Overall SmartBuy Monthly Cap | New Voucher-Specific Cap |
| Infinia | 15,000 points (unchanged) | 3,000 points |
| Diners Club Black Metal | 10,000 points (unchanged) | 3,000 points |
| BizBlack Metal | 10,000 points (unchanged) | 3,000 points |
What Still Works on SmartBuy
Customers can continue earning accelerated rewards through other SmartBuy categories such as hotel bookings and eligible merchant transactions.
The key change from July 1 is not the removal of accelerated rewards, but the restriction on earning them through vouchers alone. Hotels still earn 10X on SmartBuy and can help cardholders use the larger overall monthly cap.
What This Means for Prime Day and GOAT Sale
If you planned to buy brand vouchers for Amazon or Flipkart through SmartBuy to maximise rewards before purchasing during the sale, the effective reward ceiling from that strategy has dropped sharply. Once you hit the 3,000-point voucher cap, further voucher purchases will only earn base Reward Points, not accelerated ones.
For large purchases, combining direct bank card discounts available during Prime Day and GOAT Sale with exchange bonuses may now offer better effective value than routing spend through SmartBuy vouchers beyond the cap.
