Idea Partners With Opera, Quickr to Offer 10MB Data Free For Customers Daily
Idea Cellular has partnered with mobile classifieds firm Quikr and Opera Software to offer mobile data through "sponsored web passes" to over 137 million customers of the telecom operator in the country.
The tripartite partnership is aimed at enabling more Indians to get online and experience the power of the internet on their mobile phones, the first such initiative in South Asia, a statement said.

Such a pass offers one-time access to the Internet and is aimed at those who do not want to invest in monthly data plans. The "Sponsored Web Pass" will offer Idea subscribers free 10 MB usage for a day.

The web passes are being sponsored by Quickr and users will be able to activate them through the Opera Mini web browser app by selecting the Idea Web Pass tab followed by Free Internet by Quikr (10MB) option from the speed dial interface. The main goal of providing cost-free data usage is to get more users online through their smartphones and feature handsets.
The carrier's web pass deal basically serves as a substitute to monthly plans. Currently, there are three subscriptions available which offer daily net usage for Rs. 8 or weekly at Rs. 30 and Facebook access only for several days for Rs. 7.
Although, 10MB is not a sufficient data for smartphone users, it could offer at least a glimpse of Facebook or Twitter to the users.
