Indian Government issues high risk warning to iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch Users

In a recent development, the Indian Government has issued a high-risk warning for all Apple users in the country. This alarming warning has been posted by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), a part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India.

As per the issued warning, popular Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and MacBooks have been identified to be plagued with serious vulnerabilities.

Unveiling the Vulnerabilities in Apple Products

The Vulnerability Note CIVN-2023-0303 released by CERT-In on Oct 14, 2023, brought to light several perceived threats. The identified vulnerabilities originated due to issues like insufficient validation within the kernel component and a buffer overflow issue in the WebRTC component.

This included potential risks like information disclosure, denial of service (DoS), remote code execution, bypass authentication, security feature bypass, and more. In other words, these vulnerabilities could provide a remote attacker with unprecedented privileges and give them control over the targeted device.

Given the severity of these vulnerabilities, it is urged that users who are on older versions of Apple's operating systems update their software promptly.

The versions that are affected, as stated in the CERT-In vulnerability note, include earlier versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and Safari. The immediate measures advised include downloading and installing the most recent software update.
