Union Budget 2024: Electric Vehicles and Sustainable Fuels Take Center Stage in India's Budget
In a significant move towards fostering green growth, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented an ambitious interim budget, outlining India's commitment to sustainable energy.
The budget for 2024-2025 prioritizes the integration of renewable resources, marking a crucial step in the nation's journey towards a more sustainable future.

Aiming for Net-zero Emissions
Offshore Wind Energy and Coal Gasification Targets
To achieve the ambitious goal of Net-zero Emissions by 2070, the government has allocated funds for the exploration of Offshore Wind Energy. Additionally, a surge in coal gasification and liquefaction, with targets set at 100 megatons by 2030, aims to reduce imports of essential gases such as Natural Gas, Methanol, and Ammonia.
Greening Vehicular Fuels and Electric Vehicles
Adoption of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) and Electric Vehicles
Efforts to transition vehicular fuels towards a greener spectrum include the adoption of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in transport systems. Piped Natural Gas (PNG) consumption in households is also expected to witness a gradual rise, contributing to the overall reduction of carbon emissions.
Boosting Electric Vehicle Ecosystem
Support for manufacturing infrastructure is set to increase, fostering the growth of the electric-vehicle ecosystem. Simultaneously, initiatives will be launched to introduce e-buses into public transport, triggering a surge in demand for electric vehicles across the country.

Rooftop Solarization: Empowering Households
Free Monthly Electricity and Pradhanmantri Surodaya Yojna
A milestone in India's renewable energy initiatives, the Rooftop Solarization scheme promises free monthly electricity to households. Approximately one crore homes stand to benefit from rooftop solar panels, receiving up to 300 units of free electricity each month. Envisioned as part of the Pradhanmantri Surodaya Yojna, this initiative aligns with the central government's commitment to assist low and middle-income families.
Energy Autonomy and Additional Revenue Generation
Apart from providing energy autonomy to residents, the initiative opens avenues for additional revenue generation through surplus power production. Aligned with the government's phase two rollout of the rooftop solarization scheme initiated in 2019, this project is expected to resonate deeply with the populace.
