According to a latest undercover investigation by BBC News Arabic, Instagram is enabling an online slave market. Yes, you read that right! And not only Instagram, tech giants Apple and Google are also a part of this disturbing business. The report claims that Google and Apple have listed apps which propel online slavery on their app stores.

According to the undercover investigation by BBC, a huge number of domestic workers are imported illegally to Kuwait, an Arab country. The human slaves are bought and sold online which is also known as the black market in the country.

The entire business is not done on Instagram because they use other platforms as well. Few parts of this business are being carried on Instagram, where thousands of images of domestic workers are posted with for sale labels. They are also divided into categories.

These post on Instagram were as promoted by hashtags like #maisfortransfer #maidsforyour #maidsforhire and lot more. There are specific accounts which are made for this business. Moreover, all the post are made with a specific description of the domestic workers like their experience, type of work and other details.

 

Google and Apple app stores have also caught promoting apps indulged in this business. On is known as 4Sale, this will allow users to filter workers based on race, price, and category. If you download the app you will also get to see some specific categories like including grocery shops, office furniture, laundry service, and more.

BBC report has also encountered a policeman who is a customer of this slavery business he told BBC, "Trust me she's very nice, she laughs and has a smiley face. Even if you keep her up till 5 am she won't complain."

He has also suggested BBC reporter not to give her passport to the worker. "

"The passport, don't give it to her. You're her sponsor. Why would you give her her passport?" he said.

On the entire issue, a Facebook spokesperson told BBC, "We will continue to work with law enforcement, expert organizations and industry to prevent this behavior on our platforms."
