Intel Blames Qualcomm For Multi-Billion Dollar Loss In 5G Modem Business: Report

After Apple joined hands with Qualcomm for the 5G modem, Intel sold its leading 5G mobile modem developer to Apple. The deal was done at the starting of this year, later it was reported that the Cupertino tech giant has inked an agreement and acquired Intel's 5G modem division which was specially launched for upcoming Apple iPhones. The report suggests that the deal was done in one billion dollars.

However, Intel is reportedly saying that the company has suffered multi-billion dollar loss because of Apple. The company also claims that the evaluation of one Billion dollars was also underrated. Intel accused Qualcomm of their unethical business practices which forced them to make an exit from the market.

Intel was very clear about the reasons behind its exit, "it has become apparent that there is no clear path to profitability and positive returns," Techspot quoted Intel. It was quite evident that the company was pointing fingers on Qualcomm.

Intel has also filed a report at 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals which backs the FTC's decision. In the file, Intel clarified that how chipset maker Qualcomm is hampering and disrupting out the potential competitors.

"Intel suffered the brunt of Qualcomm's anticompetitive behavior, was denied opportunities in the modem market, was prevented from making sales to customers and was forced to sell at prices artificially skewed by Qualcomm. We filed the brief because we believe it is important for the Court of Appeals to hear our perspective," Intel's General Counsel Seven Rodgers, writes in a blog post.

When Apple was indulged in lawsuits with Qualcomm, Intel was the one who became the sole supplier for the iPhones. However, that deal turns out to be a bad one, after Apple and Qualcomm shook hands once again by settling all the lawsuits. Qualcomm has become the sole provider of modems for iPhones for the next 6 years.

Meanwhile, Intel is still selling their 4G modems for PCs but the company has decided to leave the modem business in future. Recently, the company also joined hands with MediaTek to equip Intel's laptops with 5G modems which indicates that the company will not produce 5G modems any more.
